This is Part II of Victoria and Katherine's conversation with Dana Monsees of Real Food with Dana and Real Talk with Dana Podcast. In Part II, we discuss how to make sense of all the wellness information, finding a new identity when you leave diet culture or your eating disorder, and how "lifestyle changes" are really just diets.
Dana Monsees is a Nutritionist and Body Image Coach teaching women how to heal their relationship with food and their bodies and break the diet cycle for good. She is the creator of the healthy living blog Real Food with Dana, and the host of the popular Real Talk with Dana podcast, where she and her guests discuss all things nutrition, health, fitness, and mindset – with a healthy side of sarcasm. When she’s not doing her nutrition thing, Dana spends her time hiking, traveling, coaching swimming, competing in olympic weightlifting, and sliding as many Harry Potter quotes into everyday conversation as possible.

In today’s episode, Victoria and Katherine sit down with Dana Monsees of Real Food with Dana and Real Talk with Dana Podcast. In Part I, Dana shares her own story of being a Whole30 coach and getting caught in the chronic cycle of using Whole30 and elimination protocols because of fear of true recovery from ED.
She eventually leaves Whole30 because of the unhealthy patterns she saw many participants getting stuck in. This led her to the work she does now of working in clinical nutrition from a non-diet, non-restrictive, health at every size, weight inclusive approach. In this episode, Dana also talks about the pros and cons of the Whole30 and other elimination protocols and how they don’t lead to food freedom, how intuitive eating is compatible with healing protocols, and why weight is not a determinant of health.
