Luke 15:1-7

What makes heaven erupt with joy is a lost, troublemaking, wandering child of His coming home! Be like Jesus and go out of your way seeking and finding the lost sheep and loving them into God’s kingdom, where they really belong.

• Churches lose their way and start dying when the wrong things make them mad.
• Jesus thinks that all of the heartache, and all of the extra searching for that one troublemaker is worth it.

Humility

In this life, you have two options:

1. Be humbled.
2. Humble yourself. 

The world is teaching you that focusing on yourself brings happiness, but Jesus teaches us that serving others brings true life. That humbling yourself and putting others first is best for you. ⁠
Choosing humility is better/safer/wiser for you because God created the world to work in such a way that people who exalt themselves will be humbled, and people who choose humility will prosper.

How to practicing humility:

1. Serve others
2. City Group
3. Ask God for help.

God is sovereign over our struggles, our worries and our anxieties. Have faith in God who is our provider. Live your life for the Kingdom of Heaven and everything will fall into place.

Reasons why we shouldn't be anxious:

1. Worrying doesn't do us any good
2. Our worry paints an inconsistent view of God to those around us
3. Worry is a marker for us that our heart is not in the right place

One Necessary Thing
Luke 10:38-42

We’re busy. We’re beyond distracted. We’ll see today, too, that Martha was a workaholic. Martha was busy, busy, busy. She was so busy tidying up and preparing and serving that she missed Jesus.
Are you weary? Are you distracted? Are you busy and anxious? Come to Jesus. His invitation is for you. Come to Him now, by faith, and He’ll give you rest.

1. Busyness holds me back from hearing God.
2. Busyness makes me anxious.
3. I need to reorient my attention onto Jesus.

Applications:

• Make Time for Jesus (Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Yearly)
• Physically write down somewhere where you’ll see this every day:
  What does Jesus want for me today?

How do you define greatness? Jesus says that the person who takes the lowly position of service is great in God’s kingdom. He is calling you to this redefined greatness. Who are you serving?

• Great people minister to the one that the rest of society wants to forget is even there.
• Comparison either tears down or puffs up.
• We believe that small things done with great love will change the world.

Don’t Follow Your Heart

 All we hear in the world is: "Believe in yourself, Express yourself, Realize the power within you." But Jesus comes and says, “Empty yourself and believe in Me.” If you want your shackles tightened, believe in yourself.  If you want your chains gone, believe in Jesus. Following Christ means disowning the self and giving allegiance to Him instead. That’s the only path toward happiness and fulfillment!

• To follow Jesus, I must deny myself
• To follow Jesus, I must take up my cross daily.
• To follow Jesus, I must give my entire life to Jesus.

“Where is Your Faith?”
Luke 8:22-25

Where is your faith placed? If your faith is placed on your shoulders, you’re going to be so exhausted. Won’t you let Jesus be your rest today?

1. Storms create opportunities for Jesus to grow in my heart.
2. Jesus is in control, even if it doesn’t feel that way.
3. The object of my faith must be Jesus.

How do you continue to grow into Jesus being the Object of your faith?
Here are a few practices/habits:

• Tell God about your storm and give Him the weight of it.
• Memorize Bible verses that remind me of Jesus being the object of my faith.
• Think about God’s attributes.
• Think about the Names of God in the Bible.
• Name your storms in City Group.

"He is not here, but has risen!" Those 7 words changed history. Jesus is inviting you to leave the burdensome ways of this world and to step into His way that is easy, with His burden that’s light! 

• Why did God do all this? Because He cares. Jesus loves you, so He died in your place on the cross to pay for your sin, then He rose to life to defeat death and offer you eternal life.
• Sin promises you happiness, but it costs you everything. Jesus came to free you from that endless cycle of hope and disappointment.

Becoming a People of Radical Acceptance

If we own the mission of accepting people like Jesus did and offering them forgiveness from God, we should see everywhere we go as an opportunity to bless someone, accept someone, welcome someone, and to turn that everyday space into a sacred moment with God.

• Jesus welcomes every kind of person.
• Hospitality and welcoming people might be the best reconciliation tools in our hands.
• Jesus wants to forgive sin.
• Take a step. Build a bridge. Make an invitation.
