John 11:1-44

Mary and Martha’s letter to Jesus is short and sweet… “Lord, the one who You love is sick". Instead of reminding Jesus of how good and how loyal Lazarus has been to Jesus, they emphasize Jesus’ love for Lazarus. These sisters understand their standing with Jesus. They understand that Jesus possibly healing Lazarus isn’t going to happen because their brother is good… but BECAUSE JESUS IS GOOD.

• Jesus has better timing than me.
• When I don’t know what Jesus is doing, I can be sure He’s doing something. 
• Jesus is the resurrection and the life.

Prepare For Suffering

The Bible tells us that as Christians our body and soul will suffer  physically, mentally, and emotionally in this world in some way or another. But Peter is inspired by the Holy Spirit to encourage you that suffering is difficult because you’re doing what God said. Do not be surprised by this! Take it in stride! Trust that God's mercy and grace never fails, and He will guide our paths for His glory  regardless of the circumstance. 

• Know suffering comes
• Learn to think like Jesus
• Find no shame in glorifying God
• Trust God in our suffering

Life Comes At You Fast

In this passage, Peter gives 5 key virtues to live out, along with some reminders toward what really leads to the good life.

1. Unity of mind
2. Sympathy
3. Brotherly love
4. A tender heart
5. A humble mind

Peter presents us with two ways: the way of the world, or the way of Jesus. God does want you to be happy and He knows the way. He wants you to follow His way.

What is a church?

The church is not a building or a meeting. People do not go to church but are the church. And so, commitment to your church is not commitment to a building or a set of preferences but to a group of people! 

• The church is a people
• Members have privileges; partners have ownership.
  • Partners own the responsibility of carrying the mission forward
• Unity isn’t the result of sameness.
  • We’re not unified because we’re all alike. We’re unified because we’re on the same mission
• We commit to each other.

• Lay malicious actions aside, completely

A Holy People
1 Peter 1:13-21

God isn’t calling us to be perfect, but to be distinct from the world. We’re to live a set-apart life, not trying to "blend in" with the world, but instead living according to God’s Word.

• Prepare your minds for action and as you go into the world be holy like Jesus
• The same Father God who is setting this high expectation of holiness for us is quick to forgive. He’s quick to welcome us home. He’s eager to heal and restore and renew. 
• The first step toward holiness is setting your hope fully on the grace of Christ
