• God’s will is hard to discern if we think that certain techniques automatically unlock God’s specific plans for our future.
• Beware thinking of God as your spiritual GPS.
• We may not see the significance of the details in our lives until a future day.

Jesus Never Said That: Only God can Judge Me
Matthew 7:1-5

Jesus’ two words “judge not” here in Matthew 7 may be His most famous saying in our modern culture and may be His most often misquoted or misunderstood. We live in a culture of criticism. Criticism and judgmentalism are first cousins. Be careful of developing a critical spirit. Judgment is bad for you and sets itself in opposition to the culture of mercy that Jesus brings to the world.

• We have to be People of Mercy
• Notice your sin before critiquing theirs.
• I need to address my sin before their sin.

Jesus Never Said That: God helps those who help themselves
Matthew 11:28-30

Today, we’ll look at that great, hope-filled promise that God helps those who help themselves… yeah… Jesus never said that! We are, in fact, helpless. Our God, instead of demanding that we work hard and figure out a way up the mountain, Jesus came down the mountain and carries us to Him.
There are a lot of offers that we get that just seem a little too good to be true. But Jesus’ offer is real. Jesus is not harsh and demanding. His way is easy and light. 

• We’re fully known and fully accepted without conditions by Jesus. 
• We give Jesus the full weight of our sin, shame, and burdens, and He gives us rest, peace, and life.

Jesus often gives you more than you can handle so that you’ll lean into Him, depend on Him and remember that you actually aren’t self-sufficient.

You might be following Jesus if… 

• You can only see one step in front of you.
• You’re going through a storm.
• You have doubts.
• You’re drenched.
• You’re starting to sink.
• Your storm produces worship.

Easter is a day of celebration across the world, hundreds of millions of people will gather to celebrate that Jesus is alive! We celebrate that love is more powerful than death. We celebrate that Jesus died in our place, on our behalf. The Bible says He took our sin onto Himself and then 3 days later He rose again, to conquer death, hell, and the grave. If you don’t know Jesus, He wants to extend that love to you to today. He wants to save you!

The Reality of Our Redemption
Isaiah 53

This powerful passage displays the reality of our redemption. A suffering servant, who willingly died in our place. God’s plan of salvation for us, through the death of His Son.

• Jesus is the only One who qualifies as a sufficient substitute to pay the penalty for our sins.
• We’re sinners by nature & by choice.
• The severity of our sins shouted loudly from the cross as our Suffering Servant silently endured for our sake.
• The greater good of God’s grace was in view at the cross.

Because grace doesn’t make sense and life isn’t fair, let’s take up our cross & follow Jesus.

Philippians 4:10-23

Paul ends this letter with a joyful expression of thanks to the Philippians. He’s thankful for their partnership & their progress. Their loyalty to Jesus is growing as they’ve given sacrificially, even in the midst of their own struggles, to help advance the gospel.
As we seek to be good partners in the gospel & make progress on our spiritual journey, we must learn from Paul here the secret to contentment. 

• Our generosity for Christ exemplifies our growth in Christ.
• Christ is enough. Christ empowers us to be content.
• Contentment should be disconnected from our circumstances & connected to Jesus.
• Confidence in Christ (not ourselves) breeds contentment.
• As we joyfully walk with Jesus we must know Jesus is the One providing & Jesus is the One strengthening us along the way.

1. Filling my mind with God’s Word.
2. Practicing generosity with “my” money.
3. Pursuing biblical community.
4. Worshipping God.
