This is the first long parable we hit in Luke’s Gospel, and one of the most well-known that Jesus spoke. We have the unique chance in this text to hear Jesus explain the meaning of the parable Himself. There is much for us to learn about God’s Word and our hearts.

This text brings a shocking scene as a "woman of the city" erupts in an overflow of love and joy in Jesus' presence, wetting his feet with her tears and drying them with her hair, kissing his feet and pouring expensive perfume onto them. In stark contrast we also see Simon the Pharisee, at whose house and table Jesus was sitting, respond with frustration as he questions Jesus' response and ministry. The centerpiece of it all is a short, but pointed parable about a debt forgiven.

Everyone wrestles with doubt. Even John, Jesus’ cousin and God-appointed forerunner, wrestled with questions about Jesus’ work and ministry. So did the most religious people of the time. Doubt is not wrong. Jesus is not scared by our questions.
