None of us likes to be told what to do. Some of us break into hives at the mere mention of the word “authority”. The rest of us at least get defensive and suspicious, or work to ensure that we’re the ones who have the authority. In this sermon, we will continue our series with Luke 4:31-44. We see Jesus’ authority on display. His Word and teaching are unlike any other. He has power over this world, both spiritual and physical. He is on an unstoppable mission.

From the beginning, we can see the priorities and purpose of Jesus' ministry. We also see a shocking response from the folks from the town in which Jesus grew up. What is it about His teaching that kindled such a violent and immediate response? Why were the people in Nazareth so angry at their rising-star teacher? The answers to these questions are critical for us in our own understanding of Jesus.
