When Paul writes, “consider others better than yourselves” he uses a verb that means “to calculate,” “to reckon” (Philippians 2:3 NIV). To consider others better than yourself, is not to say you have no place; it is to say that you know your place. Scripture says: “Don’t cherish exaggerated ideas of yourself or your importance, but try to have a sane estimate of your capabilities by the light of the faith that God has given to you” (Romans 12:3 Phillips).
