The Henry and Stark County Health Department announced that COVID-19 weekly numbers have declined in both Counties. By the numbers, Henry County had 31 new cases in the seven days previous to Tuesday, October 25th, 2022. In Stark County there were 3 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. The Henry and Stark County Health Department had more than 40 confirmed cases of COVID-19 last week. RaeAnn Tucker with the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about the latest numbers and other things being discussed at the Health Department.

The Kewanee City Council met on Monday, October 24th, 2022. Mayor Gary Moore joined WKEI on Wednesday, October 26th to talk about the meeting. Among the topics for discussion was the approved increase in Water, Sewer, and Trash collection rates in the City of Kewanee. Mayor Gary Moore stated that the increases were necessary due to several factors including the need for new equipment and the continuing project to remove lead lines from the water system in Kewanee. The Mayor also discussed the demolition contracts that were approved on Monday night, and the Mayor reminded Kewanee residents to be mindful of kids and trick or treating for Halloween this weekend.

Due to Covid the New Nodaway Humane Society hasn't been able to hold a fundraiser since 2020, so the free will donation spaghetti dinner tomorrow (10-25-22)at the First Methodist Church at 102 N. Main in Maryville is highly anticipated. As the economy worsens donations decrease, and for an organisation which depends on donations for a large part of their overall income...times are tough and getting tougher every day so please participate or just donate.

Matt Wright is the star of a new Netflix reality show called Wild Croc Territory. Matt talked about this unique show on the WKEI Morning Show on Monday, October 24th, 2022. Matt tells WKEI about life in Wild Croc Territory, his family being featured on the show and the many close calls throughout his adventurous time helping rescue crocs and get them to a safe location while also protecting the public from Crocs who have seen their habitats encroached upon in recent years. Matt tells us that his efforts, and the efforts of people like him have rescued the species from near extinction in Australia.

The Enchanted Pumpkin Festival is taking place this weekend in Kewanee. it's happening in downtown Kewanee from 10 Am to 7 Pm. The event will feature pumpkin painting, vendors, food and live music. And, a trunk or treat will close out the day in the Good's Parking Lot. Jeanna Moore and Tiffany Bockewitz, organizers behind the Enchanted Pumpkin Festival joined Wake Up Tri-Counties this week to talk about the event, organizing the event for the first time and already having plans for next year's event.

The Henry County Board met on Thursday evening at the Henry County Courthouse. Shawn Kendall and Henry County Administrator Erin Knackstedt joined WKEI on Friday to talk about the meeting including AdHoc grants handed out to local non-profits hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Area organizations including Henry County Senior Center, Bishop Hill Heritage Association, Colona Public Library, Freedom House, and the Orion American Legion were among those who pleaded their case to receive a grant and among the 15 grants that were handed out.
