Downtown Trick or Treat went off without a hitch Friday evening in downtown Maryville. It's estimated there were 3 thousand kids begging for the haunted holiday treats. Kathy Rice, is the organiser of the event which is now 27 years old. Listen to the interview here:

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It's a good reminder that Mammograms are readily available at OSF Saint Luke Medical Center in Kewanee. On Wake Up Tri-Counties we welcomed members of the Radiology Department, along with Samantha Rux, to talk about Mammograms, Breast Cancer Awareness, and to offer a thank you the recently retired Connie Weston who was a leader and an inspiration in the Radiology Department for so many years. All of that in this weeks OSF Saint Luke Medical Center Monday.

Reporter and Author Michael Starr has a new book out. It's a biography of legendary insult comic, Don Rickles. The book is called Don Rickles: The Merchant of Venom and Author Michael Starr was our guest on WKEI on Monday, October 31st. In talking about the book Michael discusses the public and private Don Rickles, his historic first encounter with his friend, Frank Sinatra, and Don Rickles' late in life celebrity following his successful role as Mr. Potatohead in in the Toy Story movies.

It's now officially Good Fellows Basket Season in Kewanee. The annual effort to make sure that those in need have food for the holidays is back and raising funds for the delivery of Food Baskets just before Christmas. Amron Buchanan and Ken Knowlan were our guests on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Friday to kick off the fundraising season with Good Fellows Tag Days. Two Tag Days happening in November will serve as two of the biggest Goodfellows efforts this season. Students from Kewanee and Wethersfield Key Clubs will be out across the City of Kewanee gathering donations for the purchase of foods to put in Good Fellows baskets. Watch for the students and your chance to help Good Fellows on November 5th and again on November 8th from 9 Am to 7 Pm at Wal Mart and Save A Lot among other areas in Kewanee. Kris and Kyle dropped by the Breakfast Club on KNIM Country to discuss the new hunter safety video game that was implemented recently to aid in hunter safety education. Holly Cronk and I also talked to to the agents about what they've seen as far as numbers of deer with chronic wasting disease and other illness deer can get along with the current deer populations going into hunting season.

Our friend Sargent Shane Hux from the Missouri State Highway Patrol payed us a visit at KNIM Country to tell our listeners about the hazards on Northwest Missouri roads this fall. This time of year we have the harvest which means farm equipment on the roads along with increased grain truck traffic, Deer in the roadway due to the harvest, and hunting season, and the impending cold weather which creates icy and snowy conditions on our roadways.

With the final game of the regular season last Friday (10-21-22) a 49-14 victory over Lafayette gave the Hounds the first place finish in districts and earned them a by week to start the playoffs. This season the hounds averaged about 42.7 PPG, while giving up an average of 22.7 PPG. Coach Webb talks about last weeks win over Lafayette and how he approaches the playoffs.

The Kewanee Public Library will host a Halloween Open House from 9 Am to 12:45 Pm on Saturday, October 29th, 2022. Families are invited to come and Trick R'Treat on all three floors of the library. There will also be make and take crafts and it's a good chance to break in your child's Halloween costume before Halloween arrives. Sara Billiet from the Kewanee Public Library joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday to talk about the Halloween Open House as well as the Kewanee Public Library Lego Club, and the return of the the Recipe Club at the library next month.
