The IRS is warning people about a new scam going around. It's nicknamed SMISHING after SMS Text Messages. The scam involves sending texts to random people with links in the text. The official looking text asks you to click a link and when you do it installs Malware on your phone. It's also used to steal information stored on your phone. We talked about this scam with IRS Agent Clay Sanford on Wake Up Tri-Counties on Friday. Clay also talked about the upcoming October 15th deadline for those who filed for a tax extension in April of this year.

After some very hard work and a lot of volunteer dedication, the Stark County Historical Society is ready for a major Grand Opening Celebration on October 8th, from 9 Am to 1 Pm. Jeanne Ryan with the Historical Society spoke with Wake Up Tri-Counties on Thursday morning. Guided tours of the expanded Historical Society, live music, food, and so much more will be part of the Grand Opening. But it's all about the history of Stark County and Jeanne tells WKEI that the discoveries they've made in the process of this expansion have been remarkable. It's an event the whole family will enjoy.

The Henry and Stark County Health Department announced new COVID-19 infection numbers on Wednesday and those numbers show a significant downward trend. In all, over the previous seven days prior to Wednesday, there were 37 new, test confirmed, cases of COVID-19 between the two Counties. That's the lowest number of new cases in several months since the Health Department changed their reporting to record only new Test-Confirmed cases of COVID-19. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department talked about the latest numbers as well as upcoming flu and COVID-19 Booster clinics and honoring our Office of Emergency Management during September, Emergency Preparedness Month.

Much of the talk coming out of Monday's Kewanee City Council Meeting centered on the forming of a Neighborhood Watch Program. Kewanee Police Chief Nick Welgat and Deputy Chief Stephen Kijanowski joined Wake Up Tri-Counties on Wednesday to talk about Neighborhood Watch and encourage people to contact Deputy Chief Kijanowski regarding setting up a Neighborhood Watch in your neighborhood. Chief Welgat also took time to address Kewanee's crime statistics and reiterated the need for a drug treatment center in Kewanee.

Galva Mayor Rich Volkert joined WKEI to talk about Monday's Galva City Council Meeting. It was a crowded meeting as many Galva residents turned out to hear more about the new TIF District that is coming together in Galva. The Mayor also reminded residents that the upcoming Galva Cemetery clean up will require residents to remove any decorations from graves that they would like to keep. The Mayor then discussed lead pipe removal in town and how residents can report lead pipes that need to be remediated and there are no cost to residents as the state is aiding in the lead pipe removal.
