September 21, 2022Kewanee Back When The Worlds Biggest Horse In KewaneeWas Kewanee once the home of the World's Largest Horse? Dave Clarke's research indicates it just might be true. Back in the 1920s, Sully Francis, the brother of the man who would give Francis Park to Kewanee, Frederick Francis, was a famed horse breeder. A story in a 1920s edition of the Star Courier claims that Sully Francis owned a horse named Jumbo was more than 3300 pounds in weight. Word of the massive horse traveled around the globe with the biggest paper in Germany at the time proclaiming that Sully Francis of Kewanee, Illinois was indeed, the owner of the World's Biggest Horse. The story is further corroborated by Sully's dealings with the Ringling Brothers Circus which is believed to have taken Jumbo out on tour under a different name due to them already having a world famous Elephant named Jumbo. It can make the lives of those living with it quite difficult as it alters brain activity and can make some normal tasks appear impossible due to abnormal brain activity caused by the disorder. Epilepsy requires support and understanding and with that in mind, the Kewanee Salvation Army has announced that it will host a series of monthly Epilepsy Support Groups, hosted by Stephanie Harcharik with Streator Unlimited who has created a nationally accredited program that helps people with Epilepsy find support and even find work, something that can be great challenge for those with Epilepsy.
