Henry County Crimestoppers Chili Supper fundraiser is being held on Saturday, May 21st from 4 Pm to 6:30 Pm. The Galva American Legion will play host to Crimestoppers for the biggest fundraiser of the year for Henry County Crimestoppers. There will be a bake sale going alongside the Chili Supper and all of the proceeds raised go to support the efforts of Henry County Crimestoppers. The rewards handed out by Crimestoppers are invaluable for getting information that can and has led to the arrests of criminals in Henry County. Anyone who submits a tip to Henry County Crimestoppers at 309-937-2324 will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000 dollars if their tip leads to an arrest. The Henry County Crimestoppers are also seeking new board members. The City of Kewanee is holding the Spring City Wide Cleanup on Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 7 AM to 12 PM (rain date May 21st), at the old hospital lot on W. Division St.  To enter the site, take Prospect Street to Elliott Street and follow the cones west on Division Street.  You must be a Kewanee resident to use the service, bring a utility bill with your address and form of identification.  Once your identification has been verified, you will be directed to the dumpsters located in the lot.  Your vehicle must be unloadable and be prepared to unload your own vehicle if there aren't enough volunteers at the time to help.  If you have any questions or need assistance, call City Hall at 309-852-2611.

All of this week, OSF Healthcare is celebrating Hospital Week, a nationally recognized week that highlights the hardworking health care workers across the country. At OSF Saint Luke Medical Center and OSF Saint Clare Medical Center in Kewanee and Princeton respectively, the celebration will highlight individuals and health care teams working in every aspect of patient care. All week long on social media, OSF will be sharing images and stories from their lab to the emergency department to the surgical department, highlighting the team and what they do at the hospital. Dianne Packee has been honored as the Kewanee Chamber of Commerce Ambassador's Club Citizen of the Year for 2022. The honor comes to Dianne for her remarkable charitable efforts in all corners of Kewanee. Whether it is helping organize the Prairie Chicken Arts Festival, volunteering at local non-profits, or pitching at Kewanee Rotary events, Dianne Packee has always been remarkably generous with her time. We were lucky to get to tell Dianne how much we appreciate her in person on Friday's edition of Wake Up Tri-Counties.

The cost of Medical Bills has soared in recent years and now a non-profit organization is hoping that new legislation, passed under the Trump administration, will finally force hospitals to be more transparent regarding costs and what patients are being billed for. David Silverstein leads the non-profit organization Broken Healthcare and he was our guest this week on Wake Up Tri-Counties. He says that a law passed under the Trump administration requires transparency on medical bills but only now, following a lawsuit in Colorado, are hospitals and healthcare organizations beginning to be held accountable to that law. Meanwhile, David points out that one area where costs have sky-rocketed is ambulance costs. Cities have been turning ambulance costs into a revenue stream nationwide leading to a remarkable increase in the cost of calling for an ambulance. This has led to many patients risking their life to take themselves to the emergency room or simply not going for needed care out of concern over the cost.

The Henry County Senior Center has a pair of bus trips for seniors taking place in June and in August. Seniors will be going to Branson for shows and a four night hotel stay in late June into early July. And in August, Ohio Island Hopping will include incredible shopping opportunities, museums and a wildlife adventure.
