Two licensed counselors from Memorial Hospital's Evergreen Senior Counseling Center joined WLMD recently. Melanie Sharpe and Heather Ross focused on tips for seniors who may be feeling stress or depression, especially this past year due to COVID-19. They also gave an overview of the senior counseling services available.

Memorial Hospital of Carthage partner agency, West Central Illinois Area Health and Education Center (AHEC) was the topic of discussion recently on WLMD.  Mary Jane Clark, Director of West Central Illinois AHEC, and Lauren McGaughey, coordinator, discussed the student learning opportunities available through AHEC and Memorial Hospital.  They also explained the AHEC Scholars Program and Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) virtual class.

Ashlyn Housewright, Registered Dietitian and Director of Community Health and Education at Memorial Hospital in Carthage, visited with WLMD recently. Ashlyn was joined by her dietetic intern, Kacie Coulter.

Ashlyn discussed March being National Nutrition Month and gave listeners some easy tips to get more nutrition in their meals. She also outlined nutrition services provided at Memorial Hospital.

Tyrone Baker is the newest member of the Kewanee City Council. The newly elected member of the City Council joined WKEI on People to People to introduce himself to those that may not know him. Mr Baker didn't have to campaign for office much as he was unopposed in the race to replace Councilman Mike Yaklich who chose not to run for another term. Mr Baker has a background in public service, he's spent the past 10 years as an elected member of the Wethersfield School Board.

Three Eagles in Henry County have died in the last 4 weeks with their deaths attributable to lead poisoning. How is lead getting into the Eagles? Tamara Yarger explained to WKEI on Tuned In that Eagles are getting it via the use of lead ammunition being used by hunters. She's urging hunters to switch from lead bullets to other, safer types of bullets for hunting. Three Eagles dying from lead poisoning is becoming sadly common but very usual for this time of year.

Regrets are as much a part of the grieving process as is sadness at the loss of a loved one. Whether it is regret over something harsh said or done, or something kind and loving left unsaid. Regret takes many forms and must be dealt with if you are to progress in the grieving process. The Henry and Stark County Health Department are among those growing concerned about a new wave of COVID-19 infections.
