The new to theaters horror movie, The Vigil, stars Dave Davis as a former orthodox Jewish man struggling with his faith after a tragedy caused him to leave the orthodoxy. Now, in need of some quick cash, he's returning to his orthodox community in a tiny corner of New York City to carry out a tradition. A family needs someone to sit the vigil, a part of tradition where a Jewish person's body lies in the home for 24 hours before being prepared for burial. Our hero, played by Dave Davis, must spend the night with the body and, no surprise here, creepiness ensues. You've certainly seen things like this before but The Vigil is better than most of those movies. The specificity of the Jewish traditions and Davis' compelling lead performance set The Vigil apart from other, similar, horror movies. I spoke with Dave Davis about The Vigil on Thursday on WKEI.

The Mayor is reaching the end of its first season on NBC with a season finale airing on Thursday night. Kyla Kenady co-stars in The Mayor as Ted Danson's daughter and she talked with Regional Media about the all star team cast that she's blessed to be working with on The Mayor. Ted Danson, a legit national treasure, is also a delight to work with as Kyla tells us while Holly Hunter is a pro and a wonderful scene partner. Kyla talks about how she got into acting and why The Mayor means so much to her.

The Mayor of Geneseo, Sean Johnson, joined WKEI on Tuned In following a divisive Committee of the Whole Meeting in Geneseo on Tuesday night. The Geneseo City Council was left equally divided over the idea of moving forward with allowing a limited amount of video gambling in the City of Geneseo. Geneseo has famously in the past rejected video gambling but now will consider an ordinance that would allow for it under strict limitations. Meanwhile, another aspect looming for Geneseo is the question of getting Police pensions fully funded. The state is requiring pensions to be fully funded by 2040. The City of Geneseo is considering a bond action that would start immediately and hopefully prevent what some in the state have called a pension bomb from going off in 2040.

We also found a few moments to talk about how the new Criminal Justice Reform Bill may affect towns like Galva and other items from Galva's Monday City Council Meeting.

Whiteside County COVID Update by Regional Media

The Henry and Stark County Health Department has announced that another Henry County resident has died from COVID-19. A woman in her 70s is the 54th Henry County resident to die from COVID-19 since the pandemic began. RaeAnn Tucker from the Henry and Stark County Health Department joined WKEI on Tuesday morning for our twice weekly COVID-19 update.

Kewanee Mayor Gary Moore was our guest on WKEI's Tuned In program on Tuesday. The Mayor of Kewanee spoke to WKEI about Monday night's Kewanee City Council Meeting including discussion of Henry County State's Attorney Cathy Runty's presentation on the new Criminal Justice Reform Bill signed by Governor Pritzker on Monday. Another point of discussion was the continuing issues of accounting in the City of Kewanee. new City of Kewanee Finance Director Randi Haley has uncovered more errors and it has delayed the delivery of budget numbers to the Council ahead of budget meetings that begin next Monday night.
