The story follows an inventor known simply as "The Time Traveler," who builds a machine capable of traveling through time. During a dinner party, he recounts his extraordinary journey to his skeptical guests. He travels to the distant future, discovering a world populated by the gentle, child-like Eloi and the mysterious, underground-dwelling Morlocks. He uncovers a dark secret about the relationship between the two species and witnesses the eventual decline of Earth.
