Remember That Guy? episodes

  • RTG? 070.3: The Pilot Takes Flight

For the show's two year anniversary, Hosts James and Diaz decide to bring back a friend from their very first episode: Very Special Guest Xavier, who kicked the whole thing off with them on a file that was destroyed forever, never to be heard. Until now, when our trio resurrects their discussion from that "episode" to talk once again about Guys Who Memorably Victimized Their Teams.

Diaz brings back a swashbuckling Buccaneer who braved some choppy waters in their personal life in order to pillage Diaz's Birds (13:37); James remembers the Maddoning career of a skeleton key that unlocked a generational shift (39:07); Xavier tries to close it out better than one of his very favorite players was able to against his Guy from long ago (1:04:16). These three icons have watched the Hall of Guy fill for these last two years, but with two already in, what does this week have in store for the last... (1:19:44)

  • RTG? 070.2: For Your Consideration - Clear Guys, Full Backs

Bo knows this, and Bo knows that, but Hosts James and Diaz know that even with the help of Very Special Guest Xavier, discussing Guys takes a village. So this week, it's RTG's pleasure to welcome some assistance from NFL Fullback and TTRPG Streamer Extraordinaire Johnny Stanton IV!

After introducing their dear listeners to new friend of the show Johnny (23:38), the gang gets to recording a segment on a college football Guy who is all too familiar with recorded audio (37:16). Then it'll be time to see whether they have an induction into the Hall this week, or perhaps, inductions?! (1:15:25)

You can find out everything about Johnny's new Path of the Gridiron Barbarian subclass, the accompanying DND Backstory video and Uknite the Realm T-shirt, and the Athletics Check show at his website!

  • RTG? 070.1: When You're Here, You're Guy

The inmates are running the asylum, as this week Hosts James and Diaz, along with Very Special Guest Xavier, decide to take a more hands off approach. It's time for them to welcome some listeners on the show so that these friends of the show, in their official capacity as the Veteran's Guy-mittee, can provide some oversight on overlooked Guys from episodes past.

This episode's roster of guests and their corrections has it all: a Longtime Listeners talking about their Buddy (16:53); a disgraced news anchor with racing concerns like rpm and JPM (29:23); a Guy-llionaire pointing out real knucklehead mistakes (41:48); a Musical Director trying to get us to sing a different tune about sibling rivalries (52:45); a Mid-Atlantic baseball masochist talking about long snaps during cold snaps (1:07:41); and a pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds organization talking about their NL Central rivals (1:27:08). Unlimited soup, salad, breadsticks, and Guys! (1:43:55)

Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from Green Day, TLC, King Crimson, Don Williams, Steely Dan, John Prine & Tom Petty, and Lucas Film

  • RTG? 070: Reliti-Guy-tion VII: Advent Children

Now that they have passed their very nice milestone, the gang is ready to turn their focus backwards and look over this past season as they do at the closing of each. Once again, it is time for Hosts James and Diaz to welcome back Very Special Guest Xavier so that the three of them may engage in yet another round of Reliti-Guy-tion.

As they look back on this season and reconsider some of their finer Guys, they'll discuss: a coach who had to play catch-up at his position (22:00); a very Mannish Man and Guyish Guy (28:00); a quarterback who only ever wants to hear about backups on a computer (32:19); someone who wrestled with the forces of the capitalism behind their sport (35:26); a Guy known for getting very pissed off, and maybe also on (38:15); and a kicker about whom they think they have an extra point or two to make (42:04). After giving these Guys a second chance, the only question is where they're gonna find space for all these plaques!(48:03)

  • RTG? 069: Nice

It's a momentous occasion and to celebrate it, Hosts James and Diaz have brought back Very Special Guest Xavier to actualize a stupid idea of a category that they're all very proud of: Guys That Are Named Guy.

They begin in the trenches with Diaz's Guy and a story about some mixed feelings (18:09); Xavier races through the tale of a mechanic that's fixin' for some screentime (44:12); and James serves up perhaps the most un-Forget-able Guy yet (1:05:16). Their name may already be on the Hall's front door, but which one of these Guys will get to walk through to take their rightful place? (1:27:45)

  • RTG? 068: Cinderella Guy

Is it pronounced Guy-opic or Guy-opic? We'll let you all be the judges of that, because Hosts James and Diaz (along with Very Special Guest Xavier) are busy instead being the judges for this week's category: Guys Portrayed Incorrectly In Sports Movies.

Diaz begins today's batch by giving it his Best Shot for his new favorite Sixer (17:10); James lays Baer the incorrect portrayal of a victimized villain (52:39); and Xavier wrestles with some thorny Delaware oligarchs that are tough to pin down (1:15:25). Then, as the lights come up and the credits roll, the only question is which of these characters will be welcomed into the Hall of Guy? (1:44:57)

  • RTG? 067: Next Guy Up

It's time for a performance review, and in order to hedge their bets, Hosts James and Diaz have brought in some help this week in the form of Very Special Guest Xavier; and together, with their jobs on the line, the trio this week convenes the Guy-bunal to discuss some Replaceable Guys.

It's up to James to make sure they, unlike their Guy, don't get overshadowed by understudies (22:39); Xavier's Guy misses out by pissing away a chance at greatness (46:58); and then Diaz goes to the mat for Ultimate Fighting Alternate (1:06:38). These Guys might be known for being in a tenuous spot in their careers, but which one of them will earn an irreplaceable spot in the Hall? (1:33:49)

  • RTG? 066: Guy-perrealism

The Pac-12 is dead, long live the Pac-12! Dressed in their best funereal garb, Hosts James and Diaz welcome back Very Special Guest Xavier onto the show so that the three of them can spend this week discussing Guys Who Made The Pac-12 Great.

Xavier gets things up and running with a Guy with an excellent track record and victories out the wazoo (16:54); Diaz catches us up on a catcher who himself had to play catch up in the first place (34:36); and James takes a big swing with a Guy who had to cross the Atlantic to even make it to the west coast (1:11:04). Spoiler alert, folks: this one is contentious! But with how seriously these Hall spots are taken, we'd want nothing less as the trio fights for a chance to gain entry for their Guy.(1:29:12)

  • RTG? 065: Doppel-Güy-ner

A Guy by any other name would smell as sweet, but this week where concerned not about other names but rather other Guys with the same name. Hosts James and Diaz welcome Very Special Guest Xavier onto the show, and this time they're concerning themselves with Guys With The Same Name As Much More Accomplished Athletes.

Xavier starts off the conversation by hitting us with a Bean ball (20:27); Diaz talks about a Guy would wanted to be not like Michael, but specifically like Mike (41:05); and James introduces the first ever Canadian/Cajun football crossover (1:08:38). We all know the names, and we'll soon know even more faces to put to those names, but which name will be called when it's time for induction into the hall? (1:26:08)

Theme Music by Don Ham; additional audio from Major League Baseball
