It's pretty well known 'round these parts that Super Mario World is royalty in my eye(s), but Donkey Kong Country sits right beside it. This is my go-to Christmas game, it's a masterpiece, and in a lot of ways it's superior to Mario's SNES work.

You all know how this game works. You play as Donkey and Diddy Kong, you're trying to get your bananas back, and you jump in a lot of barrels. The platforming in DKC is superb, the music is fire, and the level variety keeps the game fresh the whole way through.

And the graphics? Get outta here...

Captain N of the Retrotopia podcast joins me this week and we had a great time talking a great game. I don't know how anyone with a soul could not love this game, and aside from a couple minor gripes, we spent most of our hour together about just how special of game this is.
