Today the heights of Washington paid tribute to a titan of American diplomacy, as presidents and diplomats past and present gathered at the funeral of Madeleine Albright, the first female secretary of state. Instrumental in leading the U.S. and NATO allies to ending the genocide in Bosnia, she was the one who termed America the indispensable nation. Active and incisive to the last, in February - just one month before her death - Albright wrote an essay in the New York Times about Putin and Ukraine, warning that "invading Ukraine would ensure Mr. Putin's infamy by leaving his country diplomatically isolated, economically crippled and strategically vulnerable in the face of a stronger, more united Western alliance." At 84, she was prescient as ever, and President Biden paid tribute to this trailblazing woman at today's funeral. Christiane was also in attendance, so we take a look back at some of her interviews with Secretary Albright, which could scarcely be more relevant today.
Also in today's episode: US Ambassador Michael Carpenter, Russian economist Sergei Guriev, author Juliette Kayyem.
