Whether you're an entrepreneur, or work with a company managing remote staff, setting well define boundaries with your remote staff, is of the utmost importance.  

Boundaries define us. They define what we are and are not, what we accept and do not accept, and makes clear what the expectations are when managing from behind the screen. 

When you manage remote staff it's easy to fall into a casual relationship, forgetting the importance of well define roles and expectations, especially when you're trying to foster an environment where your employees feel welcome and heard, but not having well define boundaries and expectations will cause more harm than good.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that happens due to change in seasons. While most sufferers experience symptoms during fall/winter, when there is less sun, there are documented cases of those affected with SAD, during spring/summer. I happen to fall in the category of those affected during fall/winter months. 

 

After posting a question asking others who work from home, "what are some  difficulties faced by you, while working from home?", I received messages that made it clear, there are quite a lot of us struggling with SAD. Many asked that I share tips on ways I deal with SAD while working from home.

You've been selected! Your resume got you in. Now it's time to show, you're more than a well written resume. 

A well written resume may get you through the door, but your ability to bring it to life and persuade prospective employers to see the value, drive and determination, of the person on paper, is key to your success.

Turn up the volume as I share 10 tips on how to ace your next phone interview.

When looking for a remote position, you must remember to de-emphasize non-relevant experiences, that may not apply in the remote space. A resume that you'd use for an onsite position, may not be relevant for an offsite/remote position. You have but a few minutes to grab the attention of a recruiter/hiring manager, think short and specific. 

You want the hiring manager to know that you understand what they are looking for and one look at your resume, reflect that you are the right candidate. 

This is no time to leave room for reader interpretation, you want the hiring manager to know exactly what you bring to the table and how it translates to you being the best person for that particular job.

Early in my career, talking about myself (specifically my accomplishments), both orally and on paper, was, by far, the arduous, most uncomfortable task. I found that I under-represented myself, even on my resume.

I would list skills I had acquired over the years, but never go into detail as to the impact those skills had on my team, manager, and company. My resume was a running list of my capabilities, minus the impact of those abilities. It was easy to see what I bring to the table, but lacking was how my contributions have and can make for a successful team and company.

It is said, when offered a position, women seldom negotiate. We should also add, when searching for a position, women (whether consciously or sub-consciously) almost always, under-represent themselves.

Hello! Welcome to the Remote Management Fairy Podcast.

For the past ten years of my twenty-year career, I've had the opportunity to work from home, for companies and hospitals here in the United States and Overseas.

One of the biggest challenges faced by myself and colleagues tasked with managing remote employees, is how to motivate, engage, empower and build tangible relationships with employees, from behind the screen.

With more than 4 million U.S employees, or 3.0 percent of the U.S population working from home at least half of the time (a significant increase from prior years), having a comprehensive organizational strategy, work planning, and learning to form and maintain a cohesive team, is of the utmost importance for those tasked with managing remote workers. 

Which is the motivation behind this space. Sharing with you, whether current remote manager, remote employees, and job seekers, how to make the most out of working in the remote space, without blowing a gasket.

My aim is to provide tips, tools, and support, to managers, remote employees and job seekers that will help bridge the gab between remote employees and those who manage them.
