Episode 164

The United States is in the midst of great political and social turmoil, and it seemed that the tragic case of Dexter Reed would be a sort of George Floyd 2.0. In the immediate aftermath of the showdown with police, It was revealed that five plain-clothes officers fired 96 rounds at Dexter Reed: another helpless black man gunned down by white cops. "They shot him 96 times for no reason!" was the battle cry, and the usual race-baiting social justice 'leaders' quickly slithered in to represent the family, shoving the grieving mother in front of rolling cameras to speak about her son. They got the drama they wanted when she collapsed mid-sentence in her grief, and so began the cries against fundamentally racist America and the drum-banging for social justice, egging on emotional bystanders who had yet to fully comprehend what had even actually happened in the first place. Who was Dexter Reed? What happened the day he was stopped by police officers? Why did they shoot so many times? In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we will examine all the available facts of this case and peel back the political, social, and spiritual layers of the story. We will debunk the sensationalism and politicization of the encounter, getting down to the facts: the most important of which is that if nothing else, Dexter Reed was a soul for which Christ died.

Today, we continue the series "What do You Believe?" with Dr. Henry Benach, President of Jewish End-Times Ministries and missionary to the Jewish people. In this episode, Dr. Benach shares his testimony, how the Lord Jesus Christ saved him after hearing the word of God at a Baptist church service that he discovered after a sweet lady called his house by accident--thrice! He also discusses Judaism (having been born and raised in an Orthodox Jewish home) and how to witness to the Jewish people that they might know their Messiah. The current turmoil in Israel has not taken our Lord by surprise, and Christians everywhere can be sure that God's plan for Israel does not include defeat at the hand of our enemy, the devil. Whenever we encounter a Jewish person, therefore, let's take what we learn from this podcast and share with them the good news of Jesus Christ.

In this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we continue the series "This World Has Gone Bonkers," where we pick a handful of headlines from the internet that demonstrate just how bonkers this world has become. The only saving grace is that Christ has conquered sin and death and has promised to return! This week, we discuss Kanye West, disease X, banks, and Bill Maher. What do these seemingly unrelated things have in common, you ask? They've all gone bonkers, that's what! Kanye West declares himself to be God, governments and institutions are looking for a new disease to crown as the new pandemic, banks seem willing to facilitate government surveillance by screening and reporting purchases that draw their ire for whatever reason, and Bill Maher says he is okay with murder! If you take away anything from this episode, let it remind you not to put your trust in man or in chariots, but instead, look to the Lamb of God!

Popular charismatic/Pentecostal preacher TD Jakes has been implicated as a regular friend of music producer Sean Combs and a participant in the infamously deviant parties he was known to throw and host. He has denied all allegations, but the accusation alone is enough to send shockwaves through the country, since he has a following number in the millions. What should Christians make of the allegations? Should we even care about it if we believe that he is a false teacher? Parents across the globe differ in age, culture, faiths, political allegiance, and personal standards, but they would generally agree that we must protect our children from any threat. We are to protect them from dangerous situations and dangerous people (including themselves!) but today, a mutated threat has emerged with breakneck speed and incredible complexity: social media. It is many things at once: useful and useless, helpful and detrimental, empowering and enslaving. Such is the concern about this technology that in late January of 2024, U.S. lawmakers grilled the CEOs of the most popular social media platforms to discover what can be done to protect vulnerable children from its malicious capabilities. On this episode of the Removing Barriers podcast, we will discuss a portion of this senate judiciary hearing. Does the Bible have anything to say on the subject, or is it too old and unrelatable? How can we protect ourselves and our children from the often corrosive effects of social media? In early 2024, Moms for Liberty representative Tiffany Justice sat down with MSNBC's Joy Reid to discuss the so-called book bans taking place in schools across the country, mostly in response to the shocking discovery that there are books in the libraries and media centers of public K-12 schools that contain explicit descriptions and depictions of sexual activities and violence. In almost all cases, the content is not only explicit, but also vulgar. Moms for Liberty claims to be merely raising awareness and empowering parents to fight back at the local level, but the likes of Joy Reid and Pen America are accusing them of banning books and attacking freedom of speech and expression. Are these accusations true? What is Moms for Liberty really all about? Is the concern about questionable content in these books overblown or politicized? If Moms for Liberty are as successful in book banning as the likes of Joy Reid think they are, should we stop them? Is book banning the appropriate course of action in a country that has freedom of speech, of expression, of religion, and of association enshrined in its Constitution? Series: How Were Your Barriers Removed - 38

Today we continue the How Were Your Barriers Removed series with an interview with Bill. Bill grew up in a Christian home and received Christ as his personal Lord and Savior early on in life, but that doesn't mean that there were no barriers to salvation. Every instance of biblical salvation is a genuine miracle where the holy, triune Creator God reaches down to an unworthy and wretched sinner to bestow forgiveness and restoration where none was possible.
