Many of us really want to change. But often what fuels our desire to change is guilt and shame. And guilt just isn't a very good motivator for sustained, life-long change. We need a new kind of vision – an imagination for change...for life in Jesus.

We all know how to fantasize over the things that harm us. But what would our lives look like if we learned how to fantasize over what is truly lovely, over what will make us whole again, and what honors our Lord?

Renewing the mind-creating new patterns of thought- leads to transformation (Romans 12:2). By habitually setting the mind on the Spirit’s desires we become the kind of people who embody the Spirit’s characteristics and submit to His inclinations. In this we anticipate grace. Grace is the ability of God in our lives enabling us to be and do what he commands us to be and do. As disciples of Jesus, we are learning to bring our minds and bodies under the governance of God’s Kingdom. Naturally, learning implies failure. In the kingdom, learning implies grace.

As new creations living in a old world we are learning to be all that we really are. Ever since Jesus transferred us out of darkness into light we are re-learning what it means to be the image and likeness of God. Slowly, as we set our minds on what is good, right, and excellent, we find ourselves being radically transformed. Radically hope-filled.
