First they came for the 1st Amendment right to free speech

And I didn’t care because they like what I said

Then they came for the 1st Amendment right to religious freedom

And I didn’t care because I believed in their God

Then they came for the 5th Amendment right to due process

And I didn’t care because I wasn’t accused of a crime

….

Then they came for the 2nd Amendment

And there was nobody left to help me keep it.

Democratic Party candidate for the U.S. Senate Karen Breslin joined me and did something that candidates don’t typically do. She thoroughly answered every question. In fact, she answered so thoroughly that there was no way to edit the episode down to 40 min.

I originally posted this video to my YouTube and TikTok channels on Sept 11, 2024.

All of what I talk about in the video hasn’t come true, yet. Too much of it has.

I’m not posting it here to say, “look at how prescient I was.” I’m posting it to say that, for those of us paying attention, we could see this coming.

We, the people, aren’t doing enough. We must get more people involved. If you know somebody who is prone to say, “I don’t care about politics”, show them this video.

Also, we’ve let down our younger generation is far too many ways already. We’ve saddled them with unaffordable health care and housing. We’ve left them with low-paying jobs and out-of-reach education. And we’ve left them with the possible end of our democracy.

The least we can do is talk to them and make sure they understand the parallels between Anne Frank’s Germany and our America.

In this first episode, I talk about my own journey - growing up, serving in the military, and why I decided to re-engage in politics.

The constitution isn’t just some piece of paper - it’s what got me fired up to fight back against what I see as real threats to democracy.

I also get personal - how politics has affected my relationships, and what I’ve learned about standing up even when it comes at a cost.

We need more people engaged, more community action, more truth.

I prefer to write my substack posts even if I might not be the best writer. It’s only time constraints that compel me to post videos so often.
