Step into our office, it’s time to discuss the dreadfully titled “The Girl Who Floats Like A Butterfly And Stings Like A Bee.” This week, we meet the delightful personal trainer Martin Snow, Tyra throws a pyjama party, and two of the girls in particular are singled out for physical traits they have absolutely no control over. Covering this show makes you feel, and this is true, extremely great! Also, Erin lists all the books she read last year. It is mildly disconcerting. This is where I’m going to try to do a joke about singing Martin Snow’s bit about “hungry fighters” to the tune of “Hungry Eyes” because I wasn’t allowed to make that the episode title. Hungry fights… that’s all I’ve got so far.

It’s a new year, it’s a new decade, it’s a new season of Resting on Pretty, it’s a 16 year old season of America’s Next Top Model! Today, we watch “The Girl Who Overslept” and meet a new slew of contestants as they get acquainted, get a bit too much rest, and are then almost immediately asked to do a nude shoot. The snow’s (presumably) coming down, and we here at Resting On Pretty have a frosty after-midnight treat for you little Holiday gremlins. We watched the 2018 Hallmark Channel tentpole “A Shoe Addict’s Christmas” starring Candace Cameron Bure and discuss the film’s odd lack of focus on shoes, the genuinely revelatory performance Jean Smart turns in, and how Cassie is a sucker for a Sad Dad. Then, we enlist the help of fellow Stringer-Labs podpal Jake Goldsbie (Sportsfield, Columbia House Party) and Producer Spouse (this show you’re actively listening to) for a little segment we’re calling, much to Cassie’s chagrin, Jake’s Takes N’ Spouses Grouses. A whole season of reality TV later, what’ve we got to show for it? I’ll tell you what, it’s surprisingly more than “basically nothing”! Today, we dig a little deeper into the behind-the-scenes goings on of Cycle 1 of America’s Next Top Model, and spend some more time with Adrianne in particular to learn some rather uncomfortable truths about what it really means to participate in this odd competition. Later, Producer Spouse poses a question to the ladies about why it might be dangerous to label reality TV as frivolous. Because it’s, and I cannot stress this enough, not! It isn’t! Eat your vegetables.

Look at us now folks! A whole season of this show and we’re only mildly teetering on the edge of a House Of Leaves-style madness trying to make sense of it all. Today, we talk about the Cycle 1 finale, “The Girl Becomes America’s Next Top Model” and we enlist the help of our good friend Julia Haist (Toronto-based actor, comedian, writer, director) to experience it with us. We discuss the wins, losses, heartbreaks and fashion of our three finalists and find out what all of them, including the winner, got up to after the show. We also get into the etymology of the word “milquetoast”, repeatedly discuss Stardew Valley way too much, and try to figure out just what the heck this reality show from a decade and a half ago has to tell us, if anything at all.
