  • Lum and Abner – Lum Accidentally Shaves Off Grandpap’s Beard. 440203
Lum’s barber shop is going nowhere, and even his promotions drive customers away. Today, grandpap enters to stretch out in the barber chair. He tells about a friend who moved to Canada long ago, and grandpap was just dreaming of him. How’s he been doing? How’s he look? Grandpap claims that old Hillary looks as good as he ever did.
As Abner takes an order over the phone, grandpap dozes, and Lum enters. Lum is ready to give up on barbering… if only he could get one customer to prove how well he can do this haircutting thing. Hey, doesn’t it look sort of like grandpap needs a shave?
Abner is against it, but he helps put on some hot water for the towels. Lum snips away on his sleeping victim… um, makes that customer. The beard is repaired by trimming here, snipping there. Do you think grandpap would look better in a goatee? Did you know grandpap had a dimple in his chin? Who’s going to hang around to tell him how good he looks once he wakes up?

  • Abbott and Costello – Visit To Tin Pan Alley. 441207.
Featuring the Great Rhythms of Freddie Rich, and swinging singing of Connie Haines. Lou comes in with a song in his throat, but Bud wishes it would just stay in there.
Lou compares himself to Bing Crosby to prove his ability. Using the same example, Bud tries to disprove his ability, along with some good word plays that put a twist on their famous baseball sketch, and getting confused over Carmen Miranda, and bars,. They even manage to drag Freddie Rich, at least his reputation into the fun.
After the commercial Freddie Rich plays, Don’t Fence Me In.
Lou persists in his singing efforts. He talks about his old days in the fish market quartet. Bud begins to show signs of caving in. He takes Lou to Tin Pan Alley to get Lou a songwriter. Mel is the janitor, Connie Haines is the secretary, and Mr Kitzel is the head songwriter. Lou and Kitzel joke around using song titles.
    Connie sings, I’m Making Believe.
Back in the music studio, Lou announces his new musical program. With back up by Freddie Rich, and the ushers securely locking the doors. Before he can make good on his threat though, Bud and Lou share a few more musically related jokes.
Bud stalls by bringing out Verna Felton as a voice coach to give Lou a lesson. She adds to the comedy of musical jargon.
Next up to tease Lou is his own little brother, Sebastian. Sebastian has to tell about the money he squandered on piano lessons, and a little about his girlfriend. He’s such a bad boy.

  • Lum and Abner – Miss Barton Wants Lum To Cut Her Hair. 440202
Still not ready to give up, Lum keeps trying to think of ideas to help increase business in the barber shop. Abner confuses Lum’s idea with driving cars through the store, or running a junk shop. Lum’s exclusive club will be by appointment only. Will the false rarity make people think exclusive means good?
Based on the kind of service someone might schedule at a car repair shop, Lum changes some of the options. Instead of a lube job, the offers a barb job. Will a license be required? Will he pick up and deliver? What other special features will he offer as part of his customer service?
When Mrs Barton phones, Lum plays up the need to schedule appointments. Is he over playing his designer shop:? The complicated application could cause the ladies to seek out Mose to give them hair cuts.

  • Fibber McGee and Molly – Ironing Board And Pressing Pants. ep417, 441205
Proud of his quality purchase, Fibber gets set up to press a suit, but creates a mess. What will Alice Darling contribute, when she has news about her latest boyfriend? Some new, air plant jargon means either a big date, or maybe even a fox fur jacket from a married man! Although it isn’t what it seems. Billy Mills plays, Pico Pico.
Continuing to put together his ironing station, Fibber tries to wire the iron, but with shocking results. Doc Gamble enters in a run down state after a night of delivering babies. Sometimes he wishes he were just a street car conductor. As Fibbers mishaps continue, Harlowe Wilcox is on hand to deliver a sponsor message.
Teeny enters to tell Fibber what her dad really thinks of him. Will Santa be able to fit a pony down her chimney? Maybe she can get a puppy from the local movie theater? The Kingsmen sing, Why Don’t You Kiss Me.
The project to press pants continues, with more destructive results. Time to phone Mirt the operator, and learn about her uncle. Meanwhile, Molly has a running tally on the expense that Fibber has run up to save having his suit professionally pressed. Beulah pops in to help wind up the whole unfortunate episode.
