  • Mark Randall: Pursued to Redemption, part 6

We still have a lot to learn about living in community as our Creator intended. Our neighbors often don’t think, look, act, or believe in the same way we do, and yet they can still have a testimony of fellowship with the same God we serve. That’s a fact our Father sometimes has to help us figure out by putting us in very unusual circumstances. Mark Randall knows exactly what that means, as he shares with us in this concluding segment of our visit with him.

Another aspect of relationship with our Creator is His desire to make us clean, and help us stay that way. It can be a complicated and difficult process, but it is necessary and worth the effort. That’s what Barry Phillips and David Jones explore in their midrash called, “The Laver,” and what Will Spires shares in his music.

  • Mark Randall: Pursued to Redemption, part 5

What would you do if, at age 50, just as your life is settling into something normal and comfortable, you get the opportunity to go to prison for something you didn’t do? Mark Randall tells us what he did. It may sound strange that he returned to prison with the attitude that he would willingly endure what our Heavenly Father had in store for him. Then again, that’s very much the attitude we read about in Paul’s letters, and in the lives of those entirely devoted to our King through the ages. In Mark’s case, he found something entirely unexpected in federal prison.

One of the things Mark discovered was how to live in community with God’s people in a hostile environment. His experience in Shelton Prison may have been an extreme example, but it highlights the lessons Barry Phillips and David Jones share about the Kingdom community our Messiah is building. Is a matter of loving God and loving others in a deeper way, as we hear in the music of Will Spires and Jimmie Black sing about it in this week’s music .

  • Mark Randall: Pursued to Redemption, part 4

When Yeshua said He was sent to seek and to save the lost, was He referring only to the “unsaved”? What about those who have been “saved” (meaning have aligned themselves with the Messiah), but who have wandered away into their old wicked ways? Does He still pursue them and try to being them back, or write them off as a lost cause?

How we answer that question reveals much about how well our own hearts are aligned with Messiah’s Kingdom. One good answer comes in this part of Mark Randall’s story. As you listen, think about that parable of the Sower and the types of soils the seed fell into. It just may be that a our hearts progress through the different types of soil throughout our lives.

The deeper question is how much of our hearts we are willing to turn over to our Creator as His Spirit highlights new areas needing His attention. Barry Phillips and David Jones probe into that question in the context of Shabbat in this midrash they call “Under A Rest.” Solomon Lopez and Kelly Ferrari Mills sing about it in this week’s music selections.

  • Mark Randall: Pursued to Redemption, part 3

So we get saved, and then life turns out much better, right? All our problems get solved, there’s no more conflict and trouble, and we live blessed, peaceful lives from that point on. Isn’t that how it works?

No, actually. Sometimes – many most of the time – life gets more difficult and the trials become harder. That’s what Mark Randall experienced after our Redeemer broke into his life one night in jail. Mark will tell you he didn’t become a saint overnight. Many other divine interventions kept him on the right track,  or at least kept him from straying too far, but his journey with Messiah Yeshua was rocky from the start.

Mark’s story is actually an encouragement and a challenge to cling every more tightly to our Redeemer. That’s what we hear in the music of Rut Banks and Jimmie Black, and in the midrash Barry and David bring about “Discerning Our Life.”

  • Mark Randall: Pursued to Redemption, part 2

How does God reach those who have never heard the message of salvation in Messiah Yeshua, or who have no interest in hearing it? If our Redeemer has gone to the trouble of taking on all of our iniquity, then should we question His willingness and ability to reach even the most unreachable? Think about that as you listen to the next segment of Mark Randall’s story.

Think also about what you know of prayer. That’s the topic of conversation between Barry Phillips and David Jones, as well as of the music by House of Aaron and the Aleph Tav Band. Then think about the elements of prayer in Mark’s encounter with his Creator.

  • Mark Randall: Pursued to Redemption, part 1

In a sense, we are all caught in a spiritual prison. Our hearts are incorrigible, and thus our Creator has turned us over to the consequences of our own misdeeds. That’s where we would remain had our Creator not determined to bring us out of that dark place. This is the story of redemption – we didn’t earn it, but God offers it anyway, even when we don’t realize there’s a better alternative to our current circumstances, nor understand how to find that alternative.

This is the story of Mark Randall’s life. One might say he was doomed from birth to a lawless life of darkness, but God would not leave him to that fate. How that happened is the subject of our lengthy interview with Mark. Over the next six shows, Mark explains how he exchanged the life of an incorrigible criminal to one of a redeemed servant of the Most High.

Redemption is the motivation for the praise we will sing to our God and King when He completes His work of restoration on this earth. That’s the topic Barry and David explore in their midrash, “We Will All Worship,” and of our musical selections by Teshuva and Will Spires.

  • Josh Ensley: Pronomian Perspective, part 3

We’ve heard Josh Ensley explain how his journey of faith in Jesus Christ led him simultaneously to a Baptist seminary and to a Torah fellowship, and how those influences contributed to his exploration of Pronomian Christianity. In this final segment of our conversation, Josh shares his ideas on a definition of Pronomian Christianity, where it fits in the history of the church, and where it may be going. Is this movement linked to the Reformation? That’s where this portion of our visit with Josh begins!

Kelly Ferrari Mills and Solomon Lopez provide the musical accompaniment for this show, with songs rooted in the prayers of scripture, and in the blessed hope of our final redemption. Barry Phillips and David Jones investigate an element of that hope in their discussion of Uncircumcised Lips.

  • Josh Ensley: Pronomian Perspective, part 2

Is there any reason Torah-honoring followers of Messiah Yeshua should pay hold on to anything carried over from Latin, the language of Rome? The Protestant reformers found a few things worthy of keeping, and there is a line of thinking that the Torah Awakening among Christians today is a continuation of the work begun during the Reformation. Josh Ensley hints at that in this second segment of our three-part conversation with him. Specifically, he refers to the “Five Solas” of Reformed Theology:

    1. Sola scriptura: “Scripture alone”
    2. Sola fide: “faith alone”
    3. Sola gratia: “grace alone”
    4. Solo Christo: “Christ alone”
    5. Soli Deo gloria: “to the glory of God alone”

In this part of our conversation, Josh shares more of his faith journey, which leads directly to our discussion of Pronomian Christianity, the name Josh and his colleagues use to describe the faith walk of those who follower Jesus Christ (Messiah Yeshua) and keep the Law (Torah). As he explains, the Five Solas are among the important elements of the Christian faith they deem essential to carry forward as we come into a walk that embraces the Torah our Messiah lived out.

This faith walk can be difficult at time, which is why Barry Phillips and David Jones share their thoughts on how to find Encouragement from our identity in Messiah. This message of encouragement inhabits the songs from our musical guests, Teshuva and Lenny & Varda.

  • Josh Ensley: Pronomian Perspective, part 1

How long has the Torah Awakening among Christians been happening? At least a generation! It has accelerated in the past 20 years, and now a new generation of teachers, pastors, scholars, and leaders are building on the pioneering work of their elders.

One of these young thinkers is Josh Ensley,  a teacher from North Georgia who began to learn about the Torah (Law) of God as a seminary student through the fellowship he attended. Today he is among a dynamic group of scholars who are putting academic rigor to common questions among Christians who are trying to reconcile what they have learned in church and what they are learning in Messianic and Hebrew Roots fellowships. That journey is the inspiration for Pronomian Christianity, the name Josh and his colleagues use to describe the faith walk of those who follow Jesus Christ (Messiah Yeshua) and keep the Law (Torah). How did Josh come on this path? That’s what we hear in this first part of our three-part interview with him.

We welcome Will Spires as our special musical guest, with songs highlighting the miracles of Chanukah, which is the subject of discussion with conversation Phillips and David Jones. As you listen, you may be surprised to hear the connections between Chanukah and Pronomian Christianity!

  • Hayley Chase: Stilled Spirits, part 3

How many people walk away from our congregations and fellowships because they don’t feel welcome? Probably more than we are comfortable admitting. It’s not that we intend to exclude people, but our cultural programming doesn’t have much room for those who deal with anxiety, depression, chronic illness, and many other conditions that make it difficult to fit in. This is something we address as we conclude our conversation with Hayley Chase.

Extending welcome from hearts of compassion is a big part of what our Heavenly Father intends. That’s an aspect of our life in Yeshua that Barry Phillips and David Jones discuss in the second half of their midrash on the Plumb Line of Righteousness. It’s also what we hear in the music of our special guest artists Teshuva and Mason Clover.

Check out Stilled Spirits, the Facebook group Hayley hosts that is “meant to be a place where we can share our hearts with honesty.” Stilled Spirits is designed primarily for women who struggle with depression and/or anxiety, but others are welcome.
