As psychologists, Diana and I live by a strict code of ethics. To honor that code, we want to issue an ethical disclaimer for this project. Reverse Psychology is not a replacement for therapy. While we sincerely hope you enjoy this program and it gets you to laugh a lot and think deeply about things, it cannot replace good, empirically supported treatment. However, if the program has sparked an interest in speaking with a therapy, we have placed a few links in our program description to help you with finding a therapist in your area.
Reverse psychology does not have the specific goal of diminishing the role or tarnishing the reputation of psychology or psychologists. We set out to have very honest, transparent discussions about the field in a passionate way but at the end of the day, we both love and deeply respect the field of psychology. It is our goal to have fun conversations and hopefully stimulate conversations for you all.
Finally, and most importantly, we are not making light of anyone’s suffering. It is our primary goal to make conversations about the hidden struggles we all go through more comfortable to talk about. We also want to normalize the process of going through things and seeking help. In that, we sincerely hope that this program helps it become easier and more comfortable to talk to each other – or talk to a professional, about things that are bothering us.
If you have any questions or concerns about the ethical content we are releasing, please know that any offense is not at all intentional. We encourage you to reach out at [email protected] and let us know.
