Christmas time is here! And so is the fifth NW RS Episode! We are hosting a Christmas Spectacular operation between Bristol, VA, and Roanoke via Radford. The Bristol line is well known to rail fans, as one of the towns along it holds a special place in history. On Christmas Eve 1957, O. Winston Link captured the most famous steam train sound recording ever in Rural Retreat, VA. As an honor, we will focus our Christmas operation on this line. We will hear freight trains and passenger trains from end to end. We will also ride a couple of passenger trains. And as a special bonus, we will return to the Grundy Branch to hear M 4-8-0s on Christmas Eve. This will be a steam-powered Christmas present that you'll treasure for years to come.

Cold winds and a leafless landscape in Virginia. This is a perfect time to ride a train on your way to your relatives for Thanksgiving. Imagine the motive power being a steam engine. The week of Halloween is upon us, and we are prepared to witness a week of hauntings during the first all-mainline RS event on the ex. Norfolk and Western Railway. We will witness steam trains on the Shenandoah Valley Line between Roanoke, VA, and Hagerstown, MD. And on Halloween night, we will see yard action in Williamson, WV, and hear more trains in the small village of Rawl, WV. As we welcome the season of fall, we also welcome the second Norfolk and Western RS event for this second season of Revival Steam. In this episode, we will primarily focus on N&W switching operations in Norfolk, Roanoke, VA, and Williamson, WV. The Norfolk and Western was the last Class 1 railroad in America to use steam locomotives. It would later merge with Southern to form Norfolk Southern, as it is known today. But what if the steamers of the N&W were to return? What wouldhappen if the steel rails that saw the last of a breed thunder over would feel the first of a new one? This is the second part of Season 2 of the podcast, as we imagine Norfolk & Western steam returning to home rails to haul regular freight and passenger trains in modern times. This episode will feature branch line operations, primarily with M Class 4-8-0 locomotives. Enjoy a glimpse of what's to come.

This is our last all-SRR RS episode for this season. Imagine yourself in the first days of summer and once again the Green and Gold passenger and black freight steam locomotives of the Southern Railway are roaming across the system. For this episode, we will cover an imaginary June Southern Safari in Indiana, Illinois, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, and Virginia, to hear the sounds of steam on a railroad that was the first to dieselize, but in the future will see a reembrace of steam. Imagine hearing the sounds of low Southern hooter whistles deep in the Carolina Mountains in the future. That is what we are about to hear in this 10th episode of the Southern Saga of the RS podcast. Welcome to Part 2 of the Southern Spring Bouquet. This continues our coverage of our massive future spring RS event on the Southern Railway. In this episode, we concentrate on the activities held in Asheville, NC in the Great Smokey Mountains. New leaves are showing their greenery, making it a great time to capture steam trains. We will mostly hear the Southern workhorses fight their way over the famous Asheville Loops, pulling freight and passenger trains. This is a show you do not want to miss.

Spring is in the air, and new leaves are popping out in all their green glory. In this episode, we imagine another source of green colors is emerging years after its disappearance: Southern Railway's passenger steam locomotives. We are about to take part in an RS Spring event that will occur in two cities. They are Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC. This is the first of two episodes of this week that will cover the event in Knoxville. We are about to hear steam switching in the yard, trotting on the Alcoa branch, and making spirited runs on the main line east and west of Knoxville. Listen and enjoy the sounds of Southern steam during the Spring.

Note: You will hear two whistles on 2-8-0 6576, both the deep throated PS-4 whistle and the three chime freight whistle.

Winter is the most spectacular time to watch and hear trains. Steam trains leave a cloud of black and white smoke in the air. Imagine that this will happen in the future with Southern Railway Steamers. We will travel to Spencer, NC, to catch steam trains in and around the city. We will hear freight trains and some passenger trains pulled by various Southern steamers that have not been seen since they were scrapped in the 1950s. A mixture of whistles and stack talk is here for this, our seventh episode of the Southern Saga. Listen, enjoy, and stay warm.
