Imagine hearing the sounds of low Southern hooter whistles deep in the Carolina Mountains in the future. That is what we are about to hear in this 10th episode of the Southern Saga of the RS podcast. We will mostly hear the new versions of the Southern Railway's largest steam locomotives, the LS class 2-8-8-2 Chesapeake locomotives. In addition, we will also hear a few other surprises during this Memorial Day operation in late May. These are some of the mightiest southern sounds we will present.

Welcome to Part 2 of the Southern Spring Bouquet. This continues our coverage of our massive future spring RS event on the Southern Railway. In this episode, we concentrate on the activities held in Asheville, NC in the Great Smokey Mountains. New leaves are showing their greenery, making it a great time to capture steam trains. We will mostly hear the Southern workhorses fight their way over the famous Asheville Loops, pulling freight and passenger trains. This is a show you do not want to miss.

Spring is in the air, and new leaves are popping out in all their green glory. In this episode, we imagine another source of green colors is emerging years after its disappearance: Southern Railway's passenger steam locomotives. We are about to take part in an RS Spring event that will occur in two cities. They are Knoxville, TN and Asheville, NC. This is the first of two episodes of this week that will cover the event in Knoxville. We are about to hear steam switching in the yard, trotting on the Alcoa branch, and making spirited runs on the main line east and west of Knoxville. Winter is the most spectacular time to watch and hear trains. Steam trains leave a cloud of black and white smoke in the air. Imagine that this will happen in the future with Southern Railway Steamers. We will travel to Spencer, NC, to catch steam trains in and around the city. We will hear freight trains and some passenger trains pulled by various Southern steamers that have not been seen since they were scrapped in the 1950s. A mixture of whistles and stack talk is here for this, our seventh episode of the Southern Saga. Listen, enjoy, and stay warm.

Christmas time is here, and so is another episode of this podcast. In this episode, we will visit Alabama along the ex-Alabama Great Southern line between Chattanooga, TN, and Birmingham, AL. We will ride two steam passenger trains and catch trackside action along the line. We also hear action around Birmingham itself. Passenger and freight trains will be pulled by various Southern steam locomotives that will return from heaven to roam the rails again. This will be an RS Southern Christmas Jamboree that you will enjoy.

Veterans Day is a day to remember those who have fought for our country. For rail fans, it is essential to recognize the mighty steam locomotives that have worked hard to resolve any conflict. This RS episode represents the recognition steam engines deserve. We will travel to the Cities of Memphis, TN, and Atlanta, GA, to hear and honor the new steam locomotives for this future Veterans Day on the Southern. It will be an episode you will want to experience.

Have you ever wondered about ghost trains roaming the rails on Halloween night? This third episode of the Southern Saga will make you imagine standing at a Junction as a flurry of spirits from the past clank by you. They will be NS freight trains pulled by new and improved Southern Steam locomotives. We will visit three locations in North Carolina and Tennessee to attend these haunting events. We will witness 2-8-0s and Mikado locomotives on the Murphy branch owned by the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad and the Blue Ridge Southern Railway. We will also visit places like Asheville, Hendersonville, and Winston Salem, NC, to hear newly built tribute and next-in-class locomotives roaming the same rails their predecessors had traveled on 80 to 90 years ago.
