The words NO ONE with anxiety wants to hear: DON'T WORRY.
As one who suffers with anxious thinking, I can attest. Simply telling me NOT to worry does not help. If I could simply just STOP, of course I would... no, I need stronger weapons of warfare against worry!
In this last message in our Fear Not series, I explore prayer, thanksgiving, and encouragement as three key weapons to combat anxiety.
Turn with me to Philippians 4 as we begin "Weapons of War against Worry."

Pain actually has a PURPOSE.
No one wants to hear that, but there it is.
Pain has a purpose, and one of those purposes is to put anxiety in its place - believe it or not!
Turn with me to a passage you all know well, 2 Corinthians 4:16-17:
Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory,

I have FINALLY come to the passage we ALL have been waiting for on fear!!!
2 Timothy 1:7, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Throughout this episode, and with this passage, I hope to better understand our fears - the healthy ones and the unhealthy ones - and what God's Word has to say about them. In particular, if God's Word tells us clearly in 2 Timothy 1:7 that God is NOT the source of unhealthy fears, what tools does He afford us to combat those fears, right here in this passage?
I also talk about how some of our healthy fears (like fear of standing in the way of an oncoming train or being mauled by a charging lion) can morph into unhealthy fears.
Above all, as we explore "Our Fears: The Good, The Bad, and The Under Control," I remind us from 1 John 4:18 that fear involves torment, and God's agape love casts out that fear, and with it, the torment that it brings.

“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever.”
In John 14:16, Jesus refers to the Holy Spirit as our Helper, and in today’s program, we look at what that means for us in the face of our anxieties.
Put simply, believer, the Holy Spirit is WITH you, no matter what you are facing. Your fears may tell you you are alone or that no one understands, but those statements are lies. On the contrary, the Helper, the Paraclete in Greek, is “One called to come alongside” of you! You are NEVER alone.
Turn to John 14 for today’s episode of Rinse and Repeat.

Today, we embark on a brand new series here on Rinse and Repeat. This series is entitled "Fear Not," and will explore God's Word on the issue of anxiety. We will explore God's presence in the midst of our fears, the role of Christ, the Holy Spirit, and the church amidst our anxieties, and much more.
Today, by way of introduction, we will examine what our fears cause us to do. In particular, we will look at two different examples in Scripture - one who faced fear and essentially ran FROM God, and one who faced fear and ran TO God.
