“Smokin” Joe Misiti joins Rick to chat and share some stories and laughs about all things life, football, High Performance and the glory days of playing footy for Essendon at the absolute halcyon peak of one of the games oldest and most famous clubs. Joey was absolutely pivotal in the famous side that was the “Baby Bombers” who won the AFL Premiership in 1993, and he recounts brilliantly his ups and downs following the sudden rise to fame at 18 years of age.
Misiti was one of the most consistent midfielders in the land for well over a decade, an absolute ball magnet who could just win so much footy. With a razor-sharp football brain, he was strong, hard and tough over the footy and would always use it to perfection making players around him better. Joe was a regular in the top 5 finish in the Best and Fairest finishing second twice, one of these occasions was in a phenomenal season of 1999 where he would finish runners up to his great mate Mark Mercuri. Following 1999, “Smokin” Joe was a huge part of what was statistically and anecdotally the greatest single season of all time as his beloved Bombers took all before them, winning every single game by huge average margins,-barring a narrow loss to the Bulldogs in would become known as the introduction of the “flooding” tactics.
The Bombers would beat Melbourne in the 2000 Grand Final by 60 points. Joe who had a sensational home and away season went full next level in the finals series with some out of these world performances that what net him the coveted “Player of the Finals Series at seasons end. After Misiti won his second flag, he continued in his ultra consistent, laid back and quiet manner until season 2004 when he retired and moved into other ventures post footy.
Joey is one of life’s great men- so authentic- with a sharp wit, he loves a good time with his friends and family and is always looking to improve! He is everything we love!!

They do this by donating 10% of each sale to mental health charities and organisations and by encouraging people to acknowledge and talk about their feelings and emotions before they become overwhelming. They aim to be the catalyst to conversations and the conduit to counselling. They love people wearing their garments walking around proud of their past and present relationships with mental health. **This episode contains content that may be uncomfortable or triggering for some viewers- please if you need reach out to organisations like Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 or Lifeline 24/7 suicide prevention and crisis support. TradeMutt is a social impact workwear company. They’re known around Australia for their loud, vibrant work shirts which were designed to start conversations about mental health, making an invisible issue impossible to ignore. Taking a more light-hearted and approachable angle to the conversation, they exist to drive the much needed social and cultural shift in attitude towards mental health among tradies, truckies, farmers, rural and blue-collar workers. In the past 5 years they’ve grown into a well recognised and established social impact workwear brand. After launching their conversation starting workwear, they saw how the funky workwear was helping to start important conversations about mental health. What they soon came to learn is that starting the conversation sometimes means that you need to continue that conversation with a professional. A professional that you can trust and relate to; is not going to charge you through the nose; wait months until you can connect with them or have to hoop jump for a referral and if you manage to get through all that to be told there’s actually no one available in your location. TIACS was born through the realisation that there were way too many barriers to free mental health support for the blue-collar community. Operating since 2020, TIACS provides a professional text and call service with qualified counsellors for free. Open Monday to Friday between 8.0am – 10.00pm AEST You can text them on 0488 846 988. **This episode contains content that may be uncomfortable or triggering for some viewers- if you cannot get on to TIACS please if you need reach out to organisations like Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 or Lifeline 24/7 suicide prevention and crisis support.
