Hurricane Dorian is doing its best to ruin the Labor Day weekend for millions of people across Florida, and beyond.

The slow moving storm is building up considerable strength in the warm Atlantic Ocean waters, before it's expected to turn west within a day or two and move right through Central Florida as a powerful category 4 storm.  We will go in depth on the damage that Dorian could cause.

Americans are expected to hit the roads and skies in droves for this Labor Day weekend, although Dorian could make travel tricky and not just in the Southeast states.  We'll preview what could be frustrating holiday traveling.

California lawmakers are inching closer to upending the business models of Uber and Lyft with a bill that would make it harder for the rideshare companies to classify their drivers as independent contractors.  The drivers are cheering this.......but Uber and Lyft are promising to throw tens of millions of dollars behind an effort to fight back.

That Joe Biden is a gaffe machine is not new; but the former vice president has been especially prone to even more egregious misstatements on the campaign trail in recent weeks, and it's prompting pundits to ask if there's an age factor at play..........or if this is just Biden being Biden.

And it was one of the best feel good stories we've reported on recently, a group of Placer County Sheriff deputies worked to free a bear cub from inside a trash bin near Lake Tahoe...........we'll talk with one of the deputies who helped to reunite the cub with its momma bear.

As cases of lung infections linked to vaping are spiking in the Midwest, public health officials from the city of Milwaukee issued a clear, unequivocal warning:  Stop vaping.  Immediately.

It's the most aggressive action taken by any public health agency when it comes to vaping, and it comes with rapidly increasing reports of lung illnesses linked to vaping. 

Charter schools have arguably become the most divisive issue in California politics in recent years, but a new bill that would reform the laws governing charter schools shows promise for some compromise..............can a balance be struck to give local school districts more control while still protecting the independence of charters?

New research shows the lessons learned from the Me Too movement by lots of men in professional workplaces:  keep a healthy distance from women.  As fewer men are willing to take one-on-one meetings with women or travel with women, was that the right takeaway from all of those stories of sexual harassment coming to light?

Former FBI director James Comey received what amounts to a slap on the wrist from the Bureau's inspector general over his handling of classified information, but that won't stop both sides of the political aisle from furiously spinning the findings.

And Lara Logan is arguably one of the bravest war correspondents of the modern era:  she's reported from behind enemy lines in Iraq and Afghanistan, and was sexually assaulted by angry crowds in Egypt.  But today she's taking on a new fight, liberal bias in the  media..........and Lara Logan is talking to In Depth.

It  seems like everyone is installing those new doorbell cameras these days, and why wouldn't you?  They let homeowners know who's at their front door and gives an added layer of security.

They also can record pretty much anything that's happening on the sidewalk and street in front of a house, which is exactly why police departments have been so eager to partner up with doorbell camera maker Ring.  New reporting found that over 400 police agencies have entered into partnerships with Ring so they can more easily get a hold of all of that valuable footage, which raises plenty of issues............so we'll go In Depth.

The main agency tasked with outreach to L.A.'s growing homeless population was the target of a stinging audit that found it failed to meet several goals for getting people off of the streets, even as it's flush with taxpayer cash to get the job done. We'll talk with the agency's leadership about the criticism.

LA County Sheriff Alex Villaneuva announced today that the deputy who faked a sniper attack in Lancaster last week is no longer employed by the department, but questions are mounting about how the Sheriff handled this incident..........which is just the latest in several embarrassments for the Department.

In his zeal to get his promised border wall built, President Trump reportedly told officials at Homeland Security to ignore environmental laws, aggressively seize land and not to worry about whether any of it was illegal........how far will the  President go to build his "big, beautiful wall?"

Lake Tahoe is one of the most regulated and carefully monitored bodies of water in the United States.................but even that can't save the largest alpine lake in North America from the ravages of plastic pollution.

Water samples show that, for the first time, microplastics---the kind that litter the world's oceans--are floating in Lake Tahoe.  Scientists aren't sure exactly how they got there, but it's not a positive sign for the lake's delicate ecosystem............so we will go In Depth.

California's schools used to be strict no drug zones, but that could be changing: new legislation would allow parents to administer medical marijuana to approved students ON school campuses, in a possible major change in policies..........but there are some issues........we'll talk to the bill's author.

As the Amazon burns, Brazil's president is demanding apologies for world leaders he feels slighted him.........and is rejecting international aid to help firefighting in the rain forest.  We'll go In Depth on the rush to put out the Amazon fires clashing with some bitter diplomacy.

And we continue our "Home for Recess" series, bringing you conversations with Southern California Congress members............today west side Democrat Ted Lieu joins us in studio to talk impeaching the president, finding a new way on immigration policies...........and his talent for being one of the best in Congress when it comes to trolling on Twitter.

There are new details coming out in the deadly and highly disputed confrontation at a Corona Costco involving an off duty LAPD officer and a man with an intellectual disability back in June.

The parents of Kenneth French, who was shot and killed by Officer Salvador Sanchez, say there was no threat and no need for Sanchez to shoot, directly contradicting the officer's version of events.  So we'll go In Depth and get both sides of this tragic story.

The G7 meeting that just wrapped up in France is the tale of two narratives, depending on who you believe.............if you believe President Trump, everything went swimmingly and, most importantly, he's making progress on a much watched trade deal with China.............if you believe news reports, President Trump often found himself an outlier among his fellow global leaders.......so we'll go in depth. 

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck seems to be a man who has everything going for him:  he's widely acknowledged to be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL, he's been to several Pro Bowls.......and he signed a 122-million-dollar contract just 3 years ago.  But, at the age of only 29, he announced his retirement due to chronic pain from numerous injuries.......we'll dive into the debate his announcement has touched off.

If you eat a pot brownie brought from a weed shop in California, do you know exactly how stoned you'll get? Apparently the people making the brownies aren't too sure about THC concentrations in edible products..........

And it was a crime of passion committed in the midst of a messy divorce............from 220 miles above earth.  We'll bring you details of one of the first possible criminal cases from space.

I hereby order you to keep it tuned to In Depth, without interruption for the next hour!  Oh.......you say I have no authority to order you to do that? Well President Trump had a similar experience this morning, when he lashed out on Twitter at China after it slapped retaliatory tariffs on American exports.

The President says he's ordering American companies to start pulling out China........the only problem being that he can't order American companies to do anything.  He also labeled the chairman of the Federal Reserve, hand picked by none other than President Trump, a bigger enemy to the United States than the president of China.

A pair of stories shaking the world of politics .........first, news that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg,  had new treatments for cancer.......causing a panic among liberals.  And , the death of David Koch, one half of the libertarian Koch brothers, shaking conservative political circles.  We'll go In Depth on both .

The LAPD launching  a crackdown on misbehaving electric scooter riders.  ........ Is that enough to deter scooters from zooming across our sidewalks?

The world's lungs are choking with smoke and the consequences could be dire for all of us.

Wide swathes of Brazil's Amazon rain forest, responsible for producing 20-percent of the world's oxygen supply, are on fire right now........and this comes at a time when deforestation of the Amazon has been increasing.  There are political and economic issues wrapped up in this story of a possible environmental disaster and we're going In Depth on all of it.

When you think of the opioid addiction crisis in America, you might not think about dentists.  But dentists are being blamed, in part, on worsening that crisis because of years of over-prescribing opioid-based painkillers..............especially when it comes to a pretty common oral surgery procedure that most of us have endured:  removing your wisdom teeth.  So we will go In Depth on weaning dentists off of opioid prescriptions.

One of the richest men in the world has a dire warning when it comes to the massive wealth gap in the United States:  the American dream is lost, and the gap between the richest and poorest Americans is a national emergency.

And when it comes to the fight between California and the Trump administration on requiring cleaner and more fuel efficient cars...........California appears to be winning.

Congresswoman Katie Hill was part of the "blue wave" freshman class of 2018 and has taken full advantage of her first year serving on Capitol Hill to push an ambitious agenda.  But the Congresswoman from Santa Clarita and Simi Valley has a target on her back: she flipped a district that had been held by Republicans since 1993, and they are extremely eager to get it back.
