Professor Robert Thurman is an American Buddhist author and academic, highly regarded for his pioneering translations of Buddhist religious and philosophical material. TIME named Robert one of the 25 most influential Americans of 1997 calling him a, “larger-than-life scholar-activist destined to convey the dharma, the precious teachings of Siddhartha, from Asia to America.”

Bob is the first Westerner Tibetan Buddhist Monk ordained by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who he first met in the early 1960’s. In 2020, Bob was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri Award for his help in recovering India’s ancient Buddhist heritage.

Dr. Rick Taylor is a professor of zoology and director of the fish collection in the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at the University of British Columbia. Rick graduated with a Ph.D. in zoology from UBC in 1989, chaired the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada from 2014 to 2018, and is an elected Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
