Taylor and Sweta welcome former NYC Public Defender, Mike Starr Hopkins. He is the founding partner of Northern Starr Strategies who also served on the Democratic presidential campaigns for Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and John Delaney. They candidly discuss what brought America to this racial justice tipping point in history, and what evidence there is for effective equitability policies going forward. If Mike sounds familiar it’s because you’ve probably heard him on his popular podcast, The Starr Report, or seen him on MSNBC, CBS, C-SPAN, and more! We discuss the difference between defunding vs. abolishing the police, qualified immunity, and more. Civil discourse, spreading awareness, and knowledge is how society progresses. We at Risky Behavior all agree that we need to have this somber, but critical conversation. As we end our first season with this informative, eye-opening episode, we invite you to have a drink as per usual, to listen and learn, and to think critically about where we are in America, and where conversations and actions need to go for a truly equitable future. Remember, vote for your local representatives! They have more influence on your lives and communities than the lame-duck president.

Sweta and Taylor invite fitness extraordinaire and founder of all things wellness “MiFitSpot,” Michaela Brown, to talk about keeping mentally and physically fit during COVID-19. Michaela drops a bombshell: she hates working out! What hope is there for the rest of us if a woman who can regularly hold herself up horizontally on a pole dislikes breaking a sweat?! Sweta and Taylor get to the bottom how to get motivated to get active (especially during a lockdown), the science behind how to establish and maintain good habits, and how physical, nutritional and mental health are inextricably linked. If quarantine is bringing you down, crank up this episode up!
You might be listening to this on the coach, but ultimately this episode is meant to lift your spirits and your bum out of a seating position! You’ll feel much better about raising a glass with us during our next happy hour once you do!

In this episode, Sweta and Taylor talk to Nancy Colleton, the President of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, which aims to leverage earth observation resources to better understand our planet. Nancy is driven by her love for nature, with an added bit of support and collaboration from NASA, NOAA, the National Science Foundation and other top-notch agencies and institutions dedicated to protecting our collective home. Behind their conservation and forecasting efforts are hard science, data and incredible innovations like satellite technology and AI. We loved getting some fascinating insights into the current state of our environment and all the species (in addition to us) that rely on it, as well as real efforts underway and hope for the future! This is the type of conversation we need in these trying times of COVID-19; one that is positive, forward-looking, are reminding us that we are all in this together!
