Questions can be disruptive. A good question can provoke the kind of self-reflection necessary to confront areas of our life that need improvement. Jesus was the master of great questions. John the Baptist is most well known for identifying Jesus as the Messiah and immersing him in the Jordan River. But he’s also a really big part of the Advent story. John first recognized Jesus while in the womb of his mother, Elizabeth. When a pregnant Mary came to visit, John did a dance of joy!

What can John the Baptist teach us this Advent season? Your life has way more in common with John the Baptist than you would ever think.

This is an incredible opportunity we have each year for a powerful encounter with Jesus. We can take a step back and remember the fact that God became one of us to rescue all of us.

We don’t often emphasize the story of Simeon and Anna during Advent. Obviously, all the attention is rightfully placed on Jesus. But often we miss something important when we fail to see the importance of those God chose to use in the story of His arrival.
