Road to Tar Valon : The Wheel of Time Podcast

We are back just in time to cover some of the exciting news, leaks, and images for season two of Wheel of Time. Do we dare hope the incomparable Shohreh Aghdashloo will actually portray the indomitable Cadsuane? Or are the clues pointing to her playing Elaida? A transcribed script between Aviendha and Perrin reveals the possibility of “sexual tension” between the two; will this actually play out on screen? If it does, will it make sense or will we hate it? We sift through the possible episode titles and the images released in the Entertainment Weekly article to see if we can piece through where this season will and won’t take us.

Thank you to Lauren from Unraveling the Pattern for an in depth look at the possible episode titles for season two.  Personally, we hope “Horses” is legit.

We rejoin Nyneave, Elayne, Thom, and Juilin as they attempt to get back to Tar Valon. The trek from Tanchico has been eventful and the gals are barely in Amador.  There’s an uncovered message from the White Tower, an unexpected capture, and a heroic rescue in the first three chapters this week. We also find Siuan hunting out an agent for the Blue Ajah’s eyes and ears in Murandy’s capital city. Amber posits a question too entertaining too resist: Is Lugard a place where drag queens run the taverns? If it is, we would very much like to go there.  Or at least see it on the show.

While RJ insists on neither beginnings nor endings in his series (and we love him for that!), it is definitely time for us to begin our Fires of Heaven reread.  Book five kicks us off with some meaty chapters and tantalizing situations.  Will Elaida manage to turn fear to obedience among the Aes Sedai? Is Padan Fain’s excursion to the White Tower hindered or helped with the new Amyrlin in charge? Will Rand be able to unite all the Aiel, including the Shaido? Can Mat win a dagger tossing event blindfolded and more than a little deep in his cups? Not to mention that crazy barn burning and near hanging in Kore Springs. And we are still only in the first few chapters. Join us, won’t you? 🥰

Is Age of Legends Moghedien a power suit wearing, risk taking, law flouting, financial shark or is she more like her namesake, a spider hiding in the shadows, playing with her food? Either way, she stands as a cunning saboteur, one of the few Forsaken to infiltrate the Dragon’s chain of command in the War of Power.  What awaits the Spider in the Third Age as she spins a new web for her victims? Who do you want to play Moghedien in the show?

What type of musical istrument should Asmodean play in the Wheel of Time TV show? How does his backstoy align with the mythos of American Delta Blue player Robert Johnson? What about Faust? Today we talk about the origins of the artist formally known as Joar Addam Nessosin, theorize on his strained relationship with his mother, and ask how to inject some good ol Americana into the television series. That and much much more, on this week's episode. As per usual, the first half is spoiler free, for any new reader looking for insight into the character, and then we dive deep into Asmodean's role within the book series.

Is it time to retire the crazy ex-girlfriend trope? Today we talk about Lanfear, one of the most over the top female villains in fantasy. We chat about her very important origin story, theorize on the confusing bits, question her big Brandon Sanderson 10 year anniversary reveal, how Prime Video could approach her character, and if she will get one of those cool cold opens we all love. Who wants to see the explosion of the Sharom on the Collam Daan? Who wants to see utter chaos? Let us know. Send us a message!

As per usual, the first half of this episode is spoiler free, and then we get into the nitty gritty.

Ishamael is on of the most destructive forces within The Wheel of Time, but how does one betray hope? How does he manage to influence the world all while being tucked away inside the seal on the Bore? What is his goal? What is his punishment? We talk about theories on the lack of advancement within the WoT, how the show got it right, and much much more and we breakdown the man formally known as Elan Morin Tedronai. We imagined this would be our final episode on TSR, however, excitement is difficult to contain when there’s so much happening in these chapters. Only covering chapters 55 and 56 this week in order to get into all the nitty gritty details and fun theories. In these chapters; Nyneave, Elayne, and Egeanin got into the Panarch’s palace, but now it’s time for the trio plus one to find their way out. And Perrin is preparing his mind and the village for what will certainly be the worst attack, if not the last, on Emond’s Field.
