Rom Crime

Apparently, YouTube Live is the newest place to get sucked into cult life. Vonia tells the warped story of how the cult "Love Has Won",  came to be and ultimately their downfall in criminal activity.  A cult leader dies at the hands of her own dogma. Foul play or natural causes? Learn how Amy Carlson rises as leader, Mother God,  by luring followers through YouTube Lives and the promise of healing and ascension.  The group starts off being called, The Galactic Federation of Light, successfully changes to, Love Has Won and after some bad press and questionable criminal activity, currently holds the new title of, 5D Full Disclosure. Seriously, they are currently streaming on YouTube, people.
This s#*! is crazy.

Shocking updates to last week's episode, Fatal Love Triangle, with new developments as late as May 6, 2021.  Listen to hear the latest!

In this weeks Rom Crime, we tackle the story of a fatal love triangle. Where the presumed guilt of one member involved left police blind to the mountains of evidence right in front of them.  We also have a new true crime badass hero! Her name is Maria Elena Salinas and she holds nothing back when it comes to uncovering the truth and questioning authority.
We LOVE her!

The unknown haunts and inspires us. The unsolved frustrates and fascinates us. For as long as tales of true crime have captivated me my interest has been equally split between the WHY these horrific things happen and the HOW the detectives and forensic experts put the pieces together and catch and cage the monster. But when the WHY never becomes clear and the HOW the killer is caught never comes to fruition we are trapped in an endless void where no answers are offered.

In this weeks RomCrime, Vonia and I share with you a story that’s gone 40 years without any answers. While those guilty of this crime may seem obvious, justice for those responsible is anything but.

For our Season 3 premiere, allow us to introduce you to Tony and Frances Toto.  A couple whose real life story was so bonkers that...they made it into a MOVIE.

“THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE!”

Words often uttered by anyone watching a really bad romantic comedy or, MY favorite, a really bad horror movie.

In our never ending search for the most romantic true crime stories out there, Vonia and I often discover that real life is, indeed, stranger (read: bat shit crazier) than fiction. However, once in awhile, a Rom Crime story pops up that seems too mind boggling to possibly be true. A story, so wild, that only a room full of writers tripping their balls off could ever come up with the plot.

Averyn and I begin this journey covering the first episode of HBO's, docu-series, I'll Be Gone in the Dark: Murder Habit. For any true crime lover, this feels personal. It was like watching someone with similar obsessions (the wonderful Michelle McNamara) dive far past where we would dare to go. The risks she takes and the obsession that ultimately declares her, are fascinating and heart-wrenching. It is a terrifying, can't turn your eyes away ride. Thank you to our listeners for joining us.
