We tots thought that this book was going to have a darker romance, however, the darkness in this book was the situation and backstory of the characters, especially the Mae and the other women from the cult. One of the books that we disagreed with the most in our final ratings… probably because Shani doesn’t like the intrigue!

A huge, hilarious reveal from Bridget LIVE on the podcast had Shani cracking up! 

This dark romantic novella Perfection by Kitty Thomas, which follows the blackmail of a ballerina after she kills her husband, was a trip. Shani dissects the story focusing on how the author properly expressed the protagonist’s desires, the presentation of sex scenes, and the unpredictable twist at the end. She also highlights the areas where the novella mostly fell short: from having a boring and lengthy backstory that pushed her to fast-forward the book, the lack of grittiness on the protagonist’s part, to the rapid wrap-up of the story without providing a fulfilling ending.

What an honor it was to talk to Beverly Jenkins about her love of books, career, and sex in books (and real-life!)

Beverly talked about how her love of reading stemmed from her mom and how proud her mom was when she started writing and publishing romance. 

We dipped into how she writes her characters (more getting out of their way since they know the story), what a relationship with an editor should be, what character she connects to the most, and more. 

Plus she gives some wonderful relationship advice for keeping her long-term marriage going.

This novella is HOT HOT HOT. Ringing in XMAS with a really delicious novella from R.E. Hargrave. If you didn't catch our interview with her, it is SO awesome.
