Team Hope are an Irish charity who help disadvantaged children overseas. They work tirelessly to combat oppression and to help communities less fortunate than our own in Africa and Eastern Europe by bringing clean water to their villages and training them on how to grow different crops and farm the land, thus enabling them to become more independent and to come out of poverty. Threshold provides advice to renters and advocates on their behalf with regards to their rights when renting. Their Q3 Impact Report highlights the need for continued work to protect renters across Ireland as they saw a 20% jump in renters at risk of homelessness and seeking their help. The NASC and CAHC have issued a joint statement regarding their concerns at the growing number of cases of hate-driven extremism, violence, racism, intolerance and harassment being perpetrated against minority groups and individuals from such groups. Tim Hanley of LGBT Ireland chats with Adrianne about their concerns and the measures they have put forward and would like our government to act upon i.e. proper education surrounding hate crime and hate speech and updating of legislation on hate here in the state and it being fully acted upon when someone reports hate crimes. They are also asking for new legislation where social media companies will be held accountable for cyberbullying and trolling. As part of Agri Aware’s ‘Sowing Wellbeing in Every Field’ campaign, a survey at this year’s National Ploughing Championships revealed some harrowing figures regarding quad safety, namely that only 18% of drivers surveyed wore helmets while operating a quad. The Immigrant Council of Ireland CEO, Teresa Buczkowska said they are mourning the loss of their founder, Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy, whose passing on the 7th November has brought great sorrow to all who knew her. Teresa said, ‘Sr. Stan, as we affectionately knew her, was a courageous and intrepid woman. She established many social justice initiatives to address the challenges of her time, but she was always thinking about the future.’ Adrianne speaks here to Teresa about this amazing woman who along with founding the homeless charity, Focus Ireland, the Immigrant Council of Ireland, and the YSI project (Young Social Innovators) empowering young people to use their talents for social change, she wrote many books and created The Sanctuary, a place of meditation and peace in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city of Dublin.
