The 53rd Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships is back in Lough Key Forest Park after more than 30 years and Boyle, County Roscommon are delighted. Visitors can watch the world- class event, also known as "The Irish Meet" for FREE, with twice daily launches, morning around 7:00am and evening around 5:30pm, weather permitting.  This family friendly event, kicks off on the evening of 20th September, with participants from the US, England, Scotland, Wales, France, Germany and Ireland taking part in a week of challenges to find this year’s champion balloonist. Culture Night is an annual, all-island public event which takes place each year on the second last Friday of September. It celebrates culture, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives, today and every day. On the 19th September special and unique events and workshops will take place at various locations here in Roscommon and across the country. Amidst the conflict in Gaza, where children are starving and families are living in constant fear, Irish Palestinians who have relatives still living in Palestine are facing their own trauma. They live in fear every day alongside their family in Palestine, hearing they are growing weaker every day and are having to step over dead bodies in the streets. One such Irish citizen, is Sherin Alsabbagh, a trainer with the GRETB in Ballaghaderreen and living in Ireland over 15 years. Sherin’s brother and young family are living in a house that is barely standing after been bombed and are having to search for stale food through streets of dead bodies. Sherin tells Adrianne what it is really like for people living in Gaza now and pleads with the Irish government to intervene and help bring her family and others here to safety.

The Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign Roscommon branch have engaged in various campaigns to raise awareness about the ongoing struggles that Palestinians are facing, and they are hosting a FREE family day event on Sunday, 31st August from 12pm to 4pm in Strokestown Park. This will be a coming together of community, a celebration of the Palestine culture and a way for people to stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine. There will be live music, cooking demos, drumming workshops, face painting, pizza, ice cream and much more. A new study has shown that a lack of places to socialise and a growing mental health crisis are two of the biggest issues impacting young people in Ireland today. Considering these findings, Spunout is urging the Government to prioritise young people in their Budget 2026, by developing hubs around the country for young people to meet in person, and more funding for youth mental health services, along with a list of other asks, which they are looking for the Government to deliver on. The situation in Gaza is at crisis point. People are starving and despite claims by Israeli authorities that there is no limit on humanitarian aid entering Gaza, most major international NGOs - including Oxfam Ireland - have been unable to deliver a single truck of lifesaving supplies since 2 March. CEO of Oxfam Ireland, Jim Clarken speaks here with Adrianne to discuss this dire situation and what we the public might do to help put pressure on the powers that be to either cease trade with Israel or to negotiate a lifting of this ban. There is also a good news story too, of a huge donation by Irish company Kukoon who promised Oxfam to donate their takings for one day and the public came out in force to buy on that day, collecting over €205,000 which will go directly to Oxfam’s work on the ground trucking water, building water infrastructure, providing sanitation and health services to the people of Gaza.
