Shannon is the 5th generation in her family to call this region home. Born and raised locally, Shannon wanted the skills and opportunity to make a difference. She found them as a doctor combating deadly diseases. Now she’s ready to make a difference for the home that launched her success.

Shannon grew up on her great grandfather’s farm land in Auburn. Her father is a Navy Veteran who served as an aircraft mechanic. Later, he spent his professional career as a Boeing employee. Her mother taught dance, fitness and arts at community and senior centers, where she still volunteers. Growing up, Shannon and her siblings learned to work hard, take care of the people around them and try to make the world a better place.

Shannon graduated from Auburn High School and went on to Stanford University, becoming the first of her family to graduate from a four-year university. She earned her medical degree from Columbia University. Shannon completed a residency in medicine and pediatrics at Duke University Medical Center and an infectious diseases fellowship at Emory University.

Shannon is proud of the education she received. She wants to make sure today’s generation of young Washingtonians benefit from the same opportunities: strong public schools, affordable college, and good jobs that support a family.

Armed with that world-class education, Shannon joined the Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service as an Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, later serving in Atlanta, Zimbabwe, and Washington, DC – but she always knew Auburn was home.

Most recently, Shannon was the Director of the Division of Global HIV & TB at the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention. She led a team of nearly 2,000 people across 45 countries, responsible for an annual budget of about $2.4 billion. As part of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), Shannon and her team drove quality up and costs down, while directly supporting more than 7.3 million people on life-saving HIV treatment and contributing to the more than 2.2 million babies who have been born HIV-free.

Shannon has traveled the country and the world in the pursuit of improving health and quality of life. She has a proven track record of success – even in the most dire of situations. Now, Shannon is running for Congress to ensure that her home community benefits from a government that works for them. The communities in Washington’s 8th district deserve a government that delivers on its promises. Shannon is ready to take her years of experience, proven track record and love of this community and its people with her to Congress.

I was born and raised in Ellensburg. My dad was a police chief and my mom started the Children’s Museum while raising my brother and me. I graduated from Ellensburg High School and am a proud Ellensburg Bulldog.

Growing up in a small town, I learned the difference between right and wrong. I also learned the value of hard work. My first job was on a hay farm in the Kittitas Valley. I drove a swather and bucked hay to pay for college at the University of Washington and then law school in Chicago.

I started my career as a prosecutor for King County, where I worked every day to protect our community and hold criminals accountable.

Now, as a lawyer, I fight for employees who have been cheated by big corporations. I have represented grocery workers, hotel employees, nurses, factory workers, and thousands of Washington employees.

I’ve taken on billionaires, corporations, and even the government to fight for what’s right – one case at a time. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and the people I have protected.

I am deeply disappointed at what’s happening in the other Washington. I want to take my experience fighting for regular people against powerful interests – back to Congress. We need a strong leader finally fighting for our right to quality affordable healthcare, an excellent education, and childcare. We need to protect our public lands, water, and air. I will stand up against the most powerful people and corporations – as I have my entire career – and always fight for what’s right.

When I look at the people of the 8th district, I see just that – people. I see machinists, firefighters, police officers, teachers, and all the other hard-working people I will fight for every day. That’s who deserves a voice in our government, not billionaires and big corporations.

Our representatives have been beholden to those billionaires and corporations for too long. They’re taking away healthcare from thousands of people in Washington, just to give billionaires more tax breaks.

They’ve voted against infrastructure to fix our roads, bridges, and dams, and against creating jobs in our own community.

They’ve voted to gut the Environmental Protection Agency and passed regulations that hurt family farmers and clean energy projects.

They’ve even voted to destroy the Ethics office in Congress and voted to hide Trump’s tax returns.

It’s no surprise that these representatives can raise so much money, so quickly, from so few people. It’s because the donors know they will get that money back in the form of corporate tax giveaways and less regulations — with us paying the price.

I’m running for Congress for all of us who need a voice, because once an Ellensburg Bulldog, always a bulldog.

I’m going to be a bulldog against the billionaires and big corporations who are enriching themselves while we all pay more for housing, childcare, and education.

I’m going to be a bulldog against the dark money that’s infecting our elections and our Democracy, and fight for campaign finance reform.

I’m going to be a bulldog for the middle-class and for jobs because we all deserve a fighting chance, a living wage, and an opportunity for our children to be successful.

This isn’t about Democrats and Republicans. This is about right and wrong. This is about the broken system in Washington D.C. that is stacked against us.

It’s time we had a Representative who is a bulldog for us instead of them.
