Tonight, we journey deep into the ancient world where gods and monsters ruled the skies. This episode is dedicated to some of the most terrifying creatures in myth: the Harpies, Zeusâ hounds of the wind, feared by mortals and revered by gods.

Every winter, the desolate shores of Block Island are shrouded in an unnatural gloom, where the spectral glow of a doomed vessel, the Palatine, haunts the eyes of those brave enough to look upon it.....
For Sea-tember and our TENTH Pine Cones, we bring you on a spooky voyage into the world of ghost ships, bot phantasmal and abandoned.

Niamh is deep in Sea-tember right now with a full length Mermaids episode. We go right back to the beginning with Atorgatis, then take a swim across continents with folk tales about Suvannamaccha, Rusalki, the Renvyle Merrow (Murrough) in Ireland, and how a school of scary ladies held up construction in Zimbabwe. Did you know the bacckgound to the Starbucks "siren"?

We are diving into Sea-tember with a rundown of old Sailor Superstitions. This fascinating custom still somewhat survives in the industry, but hopefully no Scottish people are being dunked?

Emily talks us through her homegirl Baba Yaga! She is a huge inspiration in Emily's art and is the archetype for that Witch of the Woods figure we all know from folk tales, like Hansel & Gretel (and I guess Throne of Glass???). Expect some rabbit-holing about Canada geese... Also some feminist rants to round out the episode because it's us.

In the quiet, misty valleys of northern Europe and beyond, where the wind whispers secrets through the heather and the rugged hills keep ancient tales close to their heart, there existed a peculiar and eerie traditionâthe ritual of the sin-eater.
Surprise! Niamh keeps her word for once and does an episode she teased months ago. This was just enough for a short. The Sin Eater in Fargo was a huge inspiration for this one, and given the research out there, he was portrayed perfectly!
Please enjoy while getting ready for bed or over your morning coffee. Don't forget to say hi on socials [especially the accompanying tiktok/reel] and let us know what you thought.

Niamh brings you lovely dotes to Japan for the FINALE of our witchcraft series. It's been a ride, eh? We start out with an overview of Shintoism and the relationship between Oni-Women and folkloric witches like the Yamauba. Then we look at Western wiccan influences and Majo, which probably resulted in your fave lil Japanese delivery broom rider. Then to close out, a look at Japan's answer to the Salem Witch Trials - the persecution of the Yuta in Okinawa.
Intro clip from Okinawan Uta - the Women Shamans of Okinawa from Stray Compass Life Channel. Fair use, we own nothing.
