TRIGGER WARNING: sexual assault

Why didn't she report it? Why did she keep talking to him afterward? Why didn't she just leave?

We ask these questions about survivors of sexual assault all the time. But when even a conviction doesn't guarantee meaningful consequences, and the very things someone does to stay safe can be used to question their credibility, the answers become a lot more complicated. NOTE: Some more adult language than usual is in this episode—watch out for kids listening or listening at work! Sue Logue was the first (and only) woman to be executed by electric chair in South Carolina. This is her story, also known as that time a mule kicked a calf and eight people died.

Fawn Marie Mountain disappeared from Claysburg, Pennsylvania in 2012. At the time of her disappearance, she was in a relationship with a reportedly abusive, controlling woman named Heather Dibert. The police investigation didn’t start until 2015, three years after she was last seen. This case is infuriating.

If you have any information at all related to Fawn Marie Mountain, even if you don’t know how useful it could be, please call the Pennsylvania State Police (814) 696-6100 or the Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers 1-800-4PA-TIPS.

Ken McElroy was a bully. He spent most of his time making the rest of the residents of Skidmore, Missouri miserable. He was a known thief, rapist, arsonist, and child molester who was rarely punished for his crimes. One day, the people of Skidmore got tired of it.

In 1920s Chicago, Tillie Klimek seemed to have an unsettling gift: she could predict when the people around her were going to die. But when one husband survived long enough for doctors to discover arsenic in his system, investigators began to wonder whether Tillie wasn’t predicting death at all—she was planning it.
