Khawla Ibraheem is a playwright, actor and director based in the Majdal Shams in the occupied Golan Heights. She is a regular at many theatres in Palestine, including El Hakawati, the Palestinian National Theatre, the Freedom Theatre and Al Jawal Theatre. Outside of Palestine, she has collaborated with many theatres and institutions, including as a fellow at the McDowell, and as an artist in residence at the Sundance Theatre Lab, where she met long time collaborator, director Oliver Butler. Khawla’s one-woman play A Knock on the Roof, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2024 to great critical acclaim. It has gone on to have runs in Dublin and New York and opens at the Royal Court Theatre this month. Khawla Ibraheem, welcome to the Playwright’s Podcast.

Lauren Mooney and James Yeatman make up the award winning theatre company Kandinsky, who make collaborative new work. They made their first show a decade ago at the New Diorama Theatre. And since then they have toured the UK and transferred internationally to Berlin and New York.

Their latest project, More Life, has been developed at the New Diorama, National Theatre Studios and the Royal Court, and will debut at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in February 2025.

Amy Jephta is a South African playwright, screenwriter and actor based in Cape Town. Jephta was the recipient of Baxter Theater Director’s Bursary in 2010 and is co-founder and producer at PaperJet Productions. She was named one of the Mail and Guardian’s 200 Top Young South Africans in 2013 and is the recipient of South Africa’s highest art accolade – The Standard Bank Young Artist Award. 

Amy’s play, A Good House, runs at the Royal Court in January 2025.

Emteaz Hussain is a playwright and performance poet. As a performance poet she has toured both nationally and internationally, and toured as a backing poet with Benjamin Zephaniah’s band. As a writer, her plays include Social Distancing, Etching and writing as part of the Royal Court’s Living Newspaper. Her latest play Expendable, will play in the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Upstairs later this year.

Oli Forsyth is a TV and theatre writer, as well as having his own theatre company Smoke and Oakum. His plays have been performed at the New Diorama, Hampstead, Vault Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe.

Mark Rosenblatt is a writer and director for stage and screen. He’s worked as a theatre director since 1998 and in that time has worked as the Associate Director at Leeds Playhouse, and Studio Associate at the National Theatre. He also founded Dumbfounded Theatre to rediscover forgotten classics from the international repertoire. This year, his debut play Giant will play in the Royal Court’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs.

Nassim Soleimanpour is a playwright, theatre maker and the Artistic Director of the Berlin Based Theatre company Nassim Soleimanpour Productions. His most well known work White Rabbit Red Rabbit has been performed in more than 20 languages, and was deemed an audacious theatre experiment. This year, his latest piece Echo debuts in the Royal Court Theatre’s Jerwood Theatre Downstairs in collaboration with LIFT.
