After spending the last two months watching Bocchi the Rock and playing Pokemon Violet, I finally remembered my duty as the #1 Weirdest Kansas City Royals Podcast Host and have thus returned to talk about this beautiful, wonderful, and highly strange baseball team.  The Royals hired Matt Quatraro as their next manager and he brought a friend from the Rays organization along with him, plus a pitching coach from the Guardians!  Meanwhile, ownership makes their intentions of building a new stadium well known to the public, but what does the public want?  Extensions and free agents!  We gotta talk about those, too, because who doesn't want their favorite Royals to stick around for longer?  Favorite Royals such as... Ryan O'Hearn, perhaps??

"I'm so f**ked up." --Mike Matheny

The 2022 Royals season has ended.  It's over.  We can move on with our lives.  But first, let's talk about some good pitchers that helped make the season suck less, and a good hitter as well!  All hail Zack Greinke, Scott Barlow and Drew Waters, three of the best success stories of the year.  You know what isn't a success story?  Mike Matheny's managerial career with the Royals lmoa.  Good thing that's now over--oh yeah, didn't you hear?  Mike Matheny got fired!  And Cal Eldred went with him!  What!!!!!!!!  Have our prayers been answered?!  Are the Royals going to dramatically improve next season and get back into contention quickly?!  Well, maybe.................. maybe not.................................................................... ?

The Royals lost some games (WOW! SHOCKER!!) to the Cleveland Guardians over the weekend, but these games have come with some good things.  Kris Bubic pitched one of his best games of the year and several Royals batters had multiple multi-hit games, leading to several strong finishes to this otherwise disastrous season.  Plus, Brady Singer pitched his last game of 2022, which warrants a small retrospective on his tremendous season and what his future could be.

In the next episode of this thrilling anime arc, the President of the Kansas City Royals, Dayton Moore himself, lets it be known to everyone that he is right and you are wrong and you are nitpicking and biased so he wins ha ha. Well, that's a way to address an impending 90+ loss season, ain't it?  Indeed, there has not been a lot to enjoy in this Royals season, but apparently that's okay and things are going to get better.  Where have we heard that one before?  Why am I writing this summary as if it's just more things said on the podcast instead of actually explaining what's happening?  The Athletic published an article saying the Royals are bad, and then the guy who runs the Royals said "no they aren't" and refused to elaborate further.  So we should maybe talk about that.  A bit.

Guys, did you know that the Royals pitching is bad?  Wow.  If only I was told about this by literally every media outlet in existence including this one.  . . . . . OK this sounds mean-spirited towards those guys even though they're doing the Lord's work.  I just mean to say The Athletic put out a scathing article on how truly horrible the Royals pitching development is in 2022 and it's both satisfying and terrifying to know that it's not new information if you've been paying attention.  But it comes from more deep-rooted sources than your average fan-made podcast, which makes it particularly eye-opening.  For the Royals faithful, it's another day of worry, of panicking in slow-motion as we wonder if this team will ever be okay.

Breaking format a bit because, well, nihilism will do that to you.  The Royals have been producing some utterly atrocious results on the field recently by getting blown up by the Tigers twice and coming very close to being no-hit by the Twins yesterday.  But, the good news for everyone is that it will all be over soon.  Oh, and apparently our pitching coordinator is leaving/fired so maybe that will be fixed, finally.
