  • It’s Just A Stormy Sea (Mark 4:35-41)

One of the more known miracles, The Calming of the Sea, Jesus and the disciples head across the Sea of Galilee encounters a huge storm.

We examine the trust the disciples have in Jesus, and the display of His authority over nature.

    Sermon Notes:

Ice Breaker: Do you like to go out on the water, if yes which way? (Swimming, surfing, sailing,

    cruise, etc) if not, why?

    Study Outline:

    1. Crossing the Sea (v35-37)

    A. Where they are

    B. The Storm

    2. Help Us Jesus (v38)

    A. What Jesus is doing

    B. Disciples Reaction

    3. Jesus Steps In (v39-41)

    A. Rebukes the Storm (Ps 89:8-9)

    B. Rebukes the Disciples

    C. List of Miracles

    (Mrk 1:23-28; Mrk 1:29-34; Mrk 1:40-45; Mrk 2:1-12; Mrk 3:1-6; Luke 5:1-11; Matt 8:5-13)

Big Idea: If you cant trust Jesus, who can you trust…

    1. Who is Jesus… (John 1:1-2; Gen 1:1-2)

    2. What Jesus did… (John 1:14; Ish 53:5)

    3. What Jesus does… (Ps 62:8; Prof 3:5-6; Her 13:8; John 14:6)

    Application:

“We who have trusted Him re bidden now to cast ever care upon Him because he careth for us.

Difficulties are but opportunities for Him to display His power. Emergencies give us the privilege

of proving His loving interest in us as we confide in His grace and count on His might”

    -HA Ironside

So with that in mind, how deep does the trust and reliance on Christ go? Is this your

everything, thought, action, conversations, are you trusting Him in everything there is in your

life or do you panic and then run to Him?

Can you take a nap in the boat during the storm?

  • Footwork and Results (Mark 4:26-34)

As we near the end of chapter 4 in the Gospel of Mark, Jesus expands on the parable of the Sower, using a parable story only found in Mark.

We have a look at what is the difference between the footwork business and the results business. Which one is ours and which one is God’s.

Below in the sermon notes and just below that all our contact information.

Big Idea: We are in the footwork business, God is in the results business

    2. Evangelize (Mark 16:15-16)

    3. Disciple (Matt 4:19-20)

    4. Fellowship (Acts 2:44-47)

    God’s Business:

    1. Justification (Rom 5:18-19)

    2. Revelation (John 14:25-26)

    3. Sanctification (Heb 10:14)

    4. New Creation (6:5-7)

    Application:

“You contribute nothing to your salvation except the sin that made it necessary.” -Jonathan Edwards

In what way are you sowing the seeds you have been given? If you are sowing seed, are you

trying to make it grow? Are you taking responsibility or trying to take the credit?

If so, what can you do to let God do his work and handle His business? If your not even

bringing the seeds to the field, what can you do better to do your business? To prepare

yourself for the work that is yours?

  • Parable of the Sower (Mark 4:1-20)

This week we look at the first major parable of Jesus’s teaching. The Parable of the Sower looks at the types of “soil” or hearers of the Word of God. We go through the types of soil and what each one looks like.

    Outline below and contact info.

    Spurgeon quote:

We are told men ought not to preach without preparation. Granted. But, we add, men ought not to hear without preparation. Which, do you think, needs the most preparation, the sower or the ground? I would have the sower come with clean hands, but I would have the ground well plowed and harrowed, well turned over, and the clods broken before the seed comes in. It seems to me that there is more preparation needed by the ground than by the sower, more by the hero than by the preacher.

    Outline:

Ice Breaker: If you could have a farm, what would you grow?

    Study Outline:

    A. What is a parable (v1-20)

    1. Teaching with Imagery

    3. Teaching to Expose Spiritual Condition

    B. Sower and the Seed (v4-8; 15-20)

    1. On the Road (v4&15)

    2. On Rocky Ground (v5-6; 16-17)

    3. Among the Thorns (v7; 18-19)

    4. On Good Soil (v8; 20)

Big Idea: Good seed ain’t growing in bad soil

    1. Colossians 1:9-13

    A. Knowledge, Wisdom (v9)

    B. Bearing Fruit (v10; Gal 5:22-23)

    C. Endurance, Patience (v11)

    D. Thanks, Inheritance (v12)

    E. Rescued, Redemption (v13)

    Application:

    From JC Ryles:

Reader, How do you hear? You live in a Christian country; you go to a place of worship Sunday after Sunday and hear sermons: in what spirit do you hear them? What effect have they upon your character? Can you point to anything that deserves the name of “fruit”?

Picking up where we left off…

We continue on with Rachael and her testimony. Delving into the mental health and past trials in a very intimate and unguarded conversation. She is open and honest as I know her to be. Here is some of the life she has struggled with, succeeded in and had victory over; and yes some still with her.

See what it looks like now in this second half.

  • A Special Guest (Part 1)

Today is a bonus episode as I have a visitor to the closet.

    Who can it be?

It’s my wife, Rachael, she sits in and shares her testimony with me as we walk through what it was like and what happened. How she came to Christ. This is one of two episodes and I hope you enjoy!

This was a lot of fun and it’s a raw conversation. I do love how she brings everything to the table.

Look for episode 2 coming soon… like right after I’m done here.
