Ruddle Me This! with Taylor Ruddle

Today I'm joined by April and Leland from the Crime To Burn podcast, a true crime podcast that focuses on crimes involving fire including arson and criminal negligence. April and Leland have been super supportive of my podcast and they often share my posts so I figured it was well overdue for me to try and help promote them a bit! April genuinely works in the fire safety industry so it's a really well researched podcast. We went through some of their tiny joys and in general chatted about arson and fire safety.

My friend Jarrod Cook and I decided to sample as many of the different flavours of Chicken potato chips that we could find in Christchurch and figure out which one was the best. We also made an unexpected stop in at the Christchurch City Libraries book fair at Pioneer stadium where we collected some books. This episode is definitely one of the weirder one I've done, and I wanted an ASMR element with the crunching of the chips towards the end of the episode. I hope you enjoy it!

I recently finished the series Cobra Kai and was hit by the sudden realization of how much time has passed since I started watching in around 2019 which was when I had just got back to New Zealand after living in Japan. I suppose you would call that my "Spool of wire" moment, look it up on tiktok if you have no idea what that is. This is a solo episode where I go through a bit of a life update, what's changed in the 7 or so years that this TV show has been running, my thoughts on the show, the ending and just the Karate Kid franchise in general and why it's rather meaningful to me. Please note big spoilers in this episode.

The Big Man and The Medium Sized Man are back for another rambunctious visit to Hoss Town! This time the fellas ruminate on Matt's first time doing 60(ish) minutes of stand up comedy, Taylor's recent moderately viral Chris Luxon impression TikToks, tips on how you can make your own content pop off online. Matt's about to become an uncle or Funcle as he calls it, Taylor rang the bell and did ring introductions at local pro wrestling company Unified Championship Wrestling's event. They end with some sauna chat and a fitness update.

Comedian and Author Dr Jo Prendergast joined me on the podcast today to talk about the process of turning something tragic, in Jo's case a breast cancer diagnosis into something funny, which ended up being her show Cancer & Cartwheels which she's currently touring. Jo talks about what it was like going through Chemo, she explains what Cold Capping is, and talks about at what point did she start to try and turn it into a comedy show.

Content Warning: Some heavy topics such as Cancer & Death are discussed.

Jo is currently touring some of the Australian festivals with Cancer & Cartwheels.

The easiest way to keep up with Jo and find her on social media is by visiting www.drjoprendergast.com

Today's episode features two gents from pro wrestling which you will know I am a huge fan of. Both of these guys wrestle under Unified Championship Wrestling here in Christchurch. Elliot Samuels and I go all the way back to high school and Marc Morales is the current UCW Heavyweight Champion. Both of these guys knocked me around a bit in training when I did a UCW tryout a few years back and it was delightful to have them on the podcast. I asked them about their history in wrestling, the hardest matches they've ever had, most painful moves to recieve, their dream opponents, cheat meals and all sorts of fun stuff.

UCW has a show coming up on the 8th of March called Summer For Assault at the Kaiapoi club, get your tickets via championshipwrestling.co.nz

The Fellas are back for our first Hoss Town of 2025, they've had nearly 3 months off so had a lot to cover! Both of the boys won awards in the 2024 New Zealand Comedy Guild Awards so Hoss Town is dripping in gold, Taylor bought a replica Sting from Lord Of The Rings while down in Dunedin, Matt was finally mistaken for Taylor, It'll be Taylor's first ever Superbowl this year and Matt runs him through the two teams playing and what we can expect, and finally both the boys have been on the wagon diet and exercise wise since before Christmas so chatted a bit about what they've been doing to try and get a bit healthier.

This week on Line By Line, my guest is Jeff Clark, a comedian, actor and improviser who legit studied Shakespeare at uni. This week and in the final edition of Line By Line (for now) we tackle the aftermath of Romeo and Juliet's meeting and see how they both seek out the guidance of their mentor figures in Friar Lawrence and The Nurse, respectively.

In Line By Line, I'm having a shakespearian actor or expert walk me through every line of the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare in an attempt to understand what's going on. The expert adds context and other tidbits to the dialogue and it's a super fun way to go through one of the longest lasting plays of all time.
