RUSH: Grab audio sound bite number two — did you see over the weekend that the war in Afghanistan’s over? (interruption) Yeah. Yeah. I remember on Friday, if you recall, if you were here, you might not have been because it’s a big travel weekend, but I want to revisit something. Grab sound bite number one. Let’s go ahead and play audio of me last Friday as we headed into the Memorial Day weekend, ’cause this sets up this Afghanistan comment.
RUSH ARCHIVE: This, to me, is one of the most important Memorial Days, and they’re all important, even that little characterization should give you an idea how tough this one is to talk about. This particular Memorial Day with everything going on in Iraq and the Middle East and ISIS now just running out of control and our leadership seemingly unconcerned, the Iranians nuking up, but Iraq and what’s happening there has got to make this Memorial Day a real challenge for a lot of American families. Those who had family members who served in Iraq, who were injured and wounded in Iraq, or died in Iraq. I mean, they might legitimately be asking themselves this weekend, this Memorial Day, why, what was the point, was it worth it? And you wouldn’t blame ’em if they did. It’s a toughie. It still needs to be acknowledged.

RUSH: I told you people yesterday and the day before of a movie, a mini-series running on ABC on September 10th and 11th, called The Path to 9/11 and I told you that I have the DVDs. I also told you because I am in touch — I am poor when I’m in New York — I do not have a DVD player. I don’t. My apartment’s got an old media room in it, it’s got a laser disk player in it, but it doesn’t have a DVD. Well, actually it has a DVD player in it, but the TV doesn’t work. The projector does, and it’s the only room in the house where there’s a DVD player, and I can’t watch DVDs on computers because I can’t hear well through computer speakers. So I watched it. It’s four hours.
I have the DVDs right here. I’m holding them in my formerly nicotine-stained fingers. I watched on the plane flight home last night. I watched part of the first one. I had to go to the airplane to watch it. I’ll tell you, this is called being in touch with the average American. I couldn’t watch a DVD at home. At any rate, let me just give you the upshot of this, because I’ve mentioned to you even without having seen it I know what it’s about. The Path to 9/11 essentially chronicles everything we know that happened in the nineties that prevented the capture of Osama bin Laden. It indicts the Clinton administration, Madeleine Albright, Sandy Berger.

RUSH: Man, oh, man. You know, I’ve gotten a lot of reaction to things over the course of my stellar and remarkable broadcast career. But the reaction I got from a monologue last week reacting to the news made by the New York State Senate where they gave a standing ovation to murder – they’re calling it abortion — I have received so many responses, favorable responses to that.

RUSH: Beverly in East Texas, nice to have you on the EIB Network. Hello.
CALLER: East Texas blessings to you, Mr. Limbaugh.
RUSH: Thank you very much.
CALLER: From a military mother of two, I’m wondering, sir, if I might shift your focus from the war on economy to the war that we are also fighting on another front. Might I do that, sir?
RUSH: You mean the war that Joe Biden says we’re losing?
CALLER: Yes, sir.
RUSH: That would be the war in Afghanistan?
CALLER: On Saturday our president said we aren’t winning which I would assume our enemies assume that that means we’re losing, as we now hear more from Iran, North Korea, and all the other bullies that are lining up. I want to speak on behalf of military families. We have two children serving. My husband served in Vietnam, and he also served under Jimmy Carter despite (unintelligible) and the hippies spitting on him. But we have a son who serves. He’s been over eight or nine times. He’s home right now in Florida. We saw him last week, celebrated his 30th birthday with him. He went over right after the election and was there through Christmas, and, you know, the military honors its commander-in-chief and they’re not going to speak a word of dishonor because that’s their character, not his. And what we see happening is we military families are in great despair right now, and I’m wondering if you can give us some words of encouragement because we’re not through with this war. My son said one day, ‘We’re fighting a war while America’s at the mall or the movies.’
RUSH: I most definitely can give you words of encouragement.
CALLER: Well, I certainly appreciate that.
RUSH: I’ll tell you what my first words of encouragement would be in response to your legitimate concerns. When the commander-in-chief and the man-in-waiting, which in this case is Plugs Biden, when they’re both out there saying we’re losing

RUSH: You know, I’ve got a story here in the Stack about Hollywood leftists, led by Ed Asner and Mike Farrell. Now, they’re a couple of relics, but they are the leaders of the anti-war movement in Hollywood, and they’re still influencing young actors and actresses, and they are admitting they don’t like this at all. They don’t like this Syria business. They don’t like what’s going on in Libya. They don’t like Obama’s foreign policy at all.
But they will not go public with it, and Asner admitted why. They don’t want to be seen as “anti-black.” Bingo again. It’s the same reason the Republicans are not standing up and stopping this or opposing it. Nobody wants to be seen as anti-black, and so opposing Obama is not seen as opposing Obama. It is racism. It is perceived as being against black people. Because of the nature of this nation’s past in terms of slavery, whenever a black person reaches a position of power we’ve got to relax all the standards.

RUSH: By the way, just so you know, a half hour before the program started I didn’t know I was gonna be doing any of this that I’ve done since the program began. But events dictate what happens here. A bunch of lies and a bunch of distortions out there. This historical perspective on America I thought was quite necessary also to inform you that there is a religious test. There are many religious tests in refugee law in this country.

RUSH: I have been struck by something.
You know, after the 59 Tomahawks were launched into Syria, there were a bunch of Trumpists, famous Trumpists who were not happy. They began tweeting immediately: “Trump said he would never do this. This is not America first. This is not putting America first. This is not making America great again. Trump said he wouldn’t be doing these kinds of military interventions anymore.” So I began to think, is that true? Did Trump campaign frequently, reliably promising there would not be any U.S. military intervention abroad? That’s another question I must put to you Trumpists.
I realize a lot of people interpreted that that is what Trump meant when he said, “Put America first,” and he was talking about NATO. With NATO he never said NATO had to go away. He just said the people running it are not paying their fair share, and we’re not gonna continue to pay way beyond our share here. We’re not gonna bear the burden. If NATO’s gonna mean anything, these people gotta play ball.
By the same token, I was trying to remember last night — I Googled it, looked around — I couldn’t find it, as in white paper policy positions, Trump claiming consistently and often, that there would never be any military intervention around the world. But, boy, did people think that’s what he meant. There was a lot of interpretation. Putting America first, making America first, making America great, America only, no more wars in the Middle East.

RUSH: I’m gonna tell you something. This Obama character is showing everybody what low character in high office is all about. This spiking the football two days in a row, actually three, over getting Bin Laden. You know, there’s only one guy who said we shouldn’t go get Bin Laden. You know who it was? It was Biden. Vice President Biden. I have the story. It was an ABC News story, and it’s from January 30th of 2012: “Joe Biden Advised Against the Osama Bin Laden Raid.”

RUSH: Well, Senator McCain, who some are calling Senator McCrazy, Senator McCain is back. He’s sucking up to the Drive-By Media and taking cheap shots at President Bush. He was in Ohio yesterday campaigning for and with Senator Mike DeWine, said this at a news conference.
MCCAIN: I think one of the biggest mistakes we’ve made was underestimating the size of the task and the sacrifice that would be required. “Stuff happens. Mission accomplished. Last throes. Few dead-enders.” I’m more familiar with those statements than anyone else because it grieves me so much that we had not told the American people how tough and difficult this task would be.
RUSH: I’m going to go back. I have a quote here from President Bush on April 28th of 2003. May I read that quote to you? “Iraq can be an example of peace and prosperity and freedom to the entire Middle East. It will be a hard journey. But at every step of the way, Iraq will have a steady friend in the American people.” I am not aware of the president — well, I’m not aware of myself ever thinking this was going to be a cakewalk, and I’m not aware of the administration making the case. I think that mission accomplished banner on board the aircraft carrier, some could say that was misleading, but the mission at that time was accomplished. That was getting rid of Saddam. The war in Iraq actually was quite successful and didn’t take very long. It is the aftermath, the quest for peace, so to speak, that is taking a long time. I don’t think the president misled anybody about it. Anyway, here is what McCain wanted. He wanted coverage on all the evening news, the cable channels, Drive-By Media adulation. McCain, McCain, McCain, McCain, and he got it. Here’s a montage.

RUSH: To Chicago, Bob, hello, and welcome to the EIB Network.CALLER: Hello, welcome (chuckles) or thank you.RUSH: Yes.CALLER: I was just wondering, Rush: If you were president, what would you be doing right now in Afghanistan? What do you think we should be doing? Do you think we should be doing more ant-insurgency or more antiterrorism, more or less troops, different troops, that sort of thing?
RUSH: Well, I’m not a commanding officer. I would listen to those who are. It’s very simple: We win; they lose.
CALLER: But did you see the interview on 60 Minutes this weekend, with the general?
RUSH: Yeah, and he said he’s only talked to the commander-in-chief one time in 70 days.
CALLER: Right. And he was talking about, you know, be more careful in our bombing and stuff and I know that’s something that’s driven you crazy when the Democrats have said that in the past, and I was just wondering what you thought about that.
RUSH: It is a dichotomy. When the cowards who are our enemy bury themselves in homes in neighborhoods with women and children wearing the burqas, it is difficult for us to go out and get the guys because we are limited by our compassion for not causing collateral damage.
CALLER: So you would just take the gloves off?
RUSH: No. I’d listen to what the generals say. But the bottom line is, what would I’d do in Afghanistan? I’d win. Here. Obama has spoken up again. It’s not hard. You know, in a war, the operating philosophy is, ‘Well, what’s the endgame? When do you get out?’ After you win! We win; they lose. Here’s Obama, at the White House, after he met with UN Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen… Did they get a new secretary-general? I thought the Secretary General was Ban Ki-moon from one of the Koreas. Anyway, here’s Obama. He said this about their… By the way, he’s ignoring Richard Cohen’s warning and Howard Fineman’s warning to stay Off TV. Obama is on TV again saying Afghanistan… Well, you listen. Here’s what he said.
