Opening prayer: Thank you, Lord, for reminding me that who I am in you is greater than anything else; AMEN.About MeName some of the emotions of a typical day. How do the words or reactions of others affect these emotions?Into the Bible – Ephesians 2:13-22Verse 13: What did Jesus do for us?Verses 14-15: How did Jesus accomplish this? What was his purpose or intent?Verses 16: What two things did Jew & Gentile have in common?Verses 17-18: What is the result of Christ’s work, and the blessings we now enjoy? Name at least two.Verses 19-22: Name four images that Paul uses to describe our new status “in Christ.”Application10 Just as the rain and the snow come down from the sky and do not return there unless they first water theearth, make it give birth, and cause it to sprout, so that it gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 inthe same way my word that goes out from my mouth will not return to me empty. Rather, it will accomplishwhatever I please, and it will succeed in the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55In Sunday’s sermon, Pastor talked about how emotion & identity often get intertwined. What are some blessings &dangers of this intertwining? How does a proper understanding of Christian emotion help keep someone grounded? In Sunday’s Gospel reading from Mark 6, Jesus’ disciples report to him “everything” that had happened – the good, the bad, the exhausting, the successful. What is encouraging about confessing & reporting to Jesus? How does Jesusreact to their report, and what do we learn from his reaction?Looking at the verse above, God made a tremendous promise. What was that promise, and how did God illustratethis fact? What are two possible reactions to the Word, and how do these reactions align with God’s purpose insending that Word?“God’s name is kept holy when his Word is taught in its truth and purity, and we as children of God lead holylives according to it. ... But whoever teaches and lives contrary to God’s Word dishonors God’s name amongus.” How does our identity in Christ (Ephesians 2) relate to our actions in this world as we seek to practice our belief?Briefly confess where your teaching or living has been contrary to God’s Word. Why is such confession helpful?“But As For You – Identity over Emotion” Identify where you generally are between “entirely logic-driven” and“entirely emotion-driven”. What circumstances tend to distract you or severely affect your mood or outlook? Try toname some blessings from a logical mindset as well as emotional mindset. How might this understanding help yourdaily outlook or relationships?Christian Identity is clear. Even though our hearts and emotions, our mind & reason would distract us or downplaythe blessings Christ gives, our identity remains the same. Write a prayer confessing how you have been distractedfrom this reality, and ask Jesus for help in remembering your identity.Prayer: Grant us, Lord, the spirit to think and do what is right that we, who cannot do anything that is good withoutyou, may by your help be enabled to live according to your will; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who livesand reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever; AMEN.
