This past Sunday I hosted Stella O'Malley of Gendspect and "Gender: A Wider Lens" and Eliza Mondegreen (writer and researcher into online trends surrounding gender and transition) to speak about the upcomming Genspect conference in Killarney, Ireland. Our conversation quickly turned to the evens in New Zealand, whre Kelly-Jay Keen (Parker Posey) was assaulted by trans rights activists at her "Let Women Speak" event. The ladies and I mused on the increasingly radical nature of gender rhetoric, and how close to violence it is taking people.
Then a trans-identified woman tragically shot up a Christian school yesterday, and a planned "Day of Trans Vengeance" was quickly scrubbed off the internet—the consequence being that myself and Eliza were locked out of twitter until we removed all mention of it.
This conversation was more prescient than any of us had intended.
