I remember walking into the room, scanning all of the eyes staring at me and checking out everything about me. I was new at the school and I was now the focus of attention. Girls giggled and boys laughed under their breath as my self-conscious ran wild with all kinds of thoughts running through my head. "What are they thinking about me?" "Are my pants unzipped?" "Do I have a booger on my face?" It is a terrifying thing for any 9 year old to have to do. There is nothing you have to do or be or have to fit in here. Just be here. Get out there. Come to events. Walk up to anyone and say "hi." You will be greeted here with enthusiasm and welcomed with open arms by most if not all. If not, then try the next campfire. Sure there are mean people in every circle just has we all have that one family member that nobody likes or wants to be around. Everyone is different. But do not give up. The vast majority of those who are doing this love the company of others. It is easy to find friends. It is easy to fit in. You do not have to have the right rig, camper, gear or clothes. You can travel with someone who does while you sleep in your car. You can have everything in the world and be best friends with someone who has nothing. It is truly an all-encompassing lifestyle where fitting in is not a problem. Come on out. Sit down and enjoy the fire. We have plenty of room for more.
